Acara Solutions is seeking an experienced
Systems Engineer to support our client's advanced engineering team in Binghamton, NY. This role involves taking ownership of hard problems and driving to a solution, while working in a team environment. This role is for a candidate who is self-motivated, exhibits a positive approach, has a strong work ethic and demonstrates strategic big picture thinking.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In this role, you will leverage your technical and leadership skills to:
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to establish architecture content and develop solutions that achieve customer needs.
- Work in a team environment, throughout the lifecycle of the program, using either Waterfall or Agile methodologies.
- Conduct engineering system development tasks including system requirements analysis, system architecture and design, preliminary design, critical design, system integration support, test procedure development, formal verification, and formal validation.
- Interpret and analyze customer requirements and CONOPS, defining the system-level architecture, and allocating subsystem requirements.
- Perform system-level analyses, determine and undertake necessary trade studies, define and allocate the functional requirements to subsystem.
- Understand and implement systems engineering processes on programs and projects.
- Create and update essential engineering documents including specifications, reports, plans, technical memos, and presentations.
- Ensure all program requirements are met, program risks are identified and mitigated, and company processes are followed.

- BS in Electrical Engineering, or other technical field or equivalent education and work experience
- Minimum of 10 years systems experience
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Experience supporting military or defense programs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
- Experience with the full Systems Development Life Cycle.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools including SysML, Rhapsody, Magic Draw and/or Cameo.
- Experience in Open Mission Systems/Universal Command and Control Interface (OMS/UCI).
- Familiarity with open system architectures (ex: ASPN, CMOSS, PNTOS, JADC2).
- Working knowledge of industry standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, for airworthiness, ARINC and RTCA standards are preferred.
- Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) knowledge and experience.
- Experience using modeling resources Experience using Agile tool sets (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.)
- Experience using earned value management systems to manage a team's cost and schedule performance.
- Experience with Software Change Control, Change Management, and CI/CD tools such as: Atlassian tool suite, GitHub, GitLab, AND/OR Jenkins.
- Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills, and excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward).
- Time management and organizational skills to prioritize across concurrent program and functional responsibilities.
- Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills with the ability to solve issues and predict potential programmatic and technical risks.
- Proven track record of building relationships, fostering collaboration and working cross-functionally with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with requirements derivation, capability development-analyze complex requirements and determine viable solutions.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting customer needs into achievable requirements or capabilities.
- Ability to decompose customer requirements into capabilities that can then be decomposed by the development teams.
Additional Information:
- Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance that has been granted or renewed in the last 5 years.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Program Access prior to the start of employment.
- Flexibility to support occasional overtime, weekend work, shift work and site travel (CONUS)
