Job Description - Plant Accountant II or Senior

Position Description

This person will determine appropriateness of and prepare entries, corrections and adjustments to plant and specified asset accounting records; evaluate variances and analyze the effects of transactions on various account relationships related to financial statements.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Determines appropriateness of and prepares entries, corrections and adjustments to plant and specified asset accounting records; evaluates variances and analyzes the effects of transactions on various account relationships related to financial statements.
  • Evaluates alternative means of treating transactions, which enter into the preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual accounting and financial reports, in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles and FERC guidelines.
  • Prepares or oversees monthly, quarterly and annual reports related to Plant Accounting areas of responsibility.
  • Researches and implements solutions on new accounting (GAAP) and regulatory issues (FERC, SEC, ACC, etc.)
  • Maintains Projects and Fixed Asset accounting systems and uses available tools to query those systems for information; understands & supports relationship between Projects, Fixed Assets and General Ledger modules of Oracle Financials.
  • Using available PC software develops worksheets to provide reports and supporting accounting schedules, as necessary.
  • Provides customer service to other departments within the company on issues pertaining to operations & plant accounting.
  • Recommends improvements or modifications to accounting systems & procedures.
  • Performs additional assignments as requested.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)
Level II

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires BS degree in Accounting with 24 units of accounting from an accredited institution or an AA degree in business with 18 units of accounting and 6 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of experience in accounting, or 8 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Senior
Description:

  • Will have primary responsibility for complex research, analysis or compliance projects. May have several projects or studies assigned at the same time and may assist other plant accountants on large projects. Will direct and review the work prepared by others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications of Level II and four years related experience. Big 5 public accounting experience and CPA status preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidates experience and qualifications.
