The Ohio Turnpike & Infrastructure Commission is seeking a Crew Supervisor to work in our Maintenance Department - Amherst Maintenance Building- Sign Shop.

Examples of Duties

Job Duties

  • Administration of maintenance and repair of construction, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices including: pavement markings, roadway signage, roadway delineation, raised pavement markers, signage, delineation, pavement paint and markings, fabrication and erection signage (mainline and plaza guide, information, warning, regulatory and temporary construction signs, etc.) concrete, vehicles and equipment, building and facilities and other activities of the sign shop including adjustment of sign fabricating equipment, design and layout signage.
  • Review assignments and implement specific work tasks, assignments, and allocate equipment, material, personnel and other resources to complete the work in an efficient manner.
  • Ensures policies are followed in the operations of maintenance including traffic control, inventory, personnel, safety, etc.
  • Management of certain personnel issues within the sign shop.
  • Completes electronic database entries and records regarding work activities, materials, fabrication, etc.
  • Manages electronic employee timekeeping and requests.
  • Performs the duties of Sign Shop Supervisor in the absence in the respective position.
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Sign Shop Supervisor.
Major Worker Characteristics
  • Knowledge of project management, time management, supervisory principles/techniques, traffic control, maintenance of traffic standards, signage maintenance and fabrication practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), inventory control, and safety practices.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer equipment and programs including electronic timekeeping (Kronos), Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Skilled in the operation and use of a variety of construction tools and equipment including hand tools, saws, trucks, safety equipment, etc.
  • Knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Ohio Turnpike Employee Manual, and enforcement of such.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Handle routine and sensitive inquiries from vendors, contactors, officials, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and instructions.
  • Gather, collate and classify information about data, people or things.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Familiarity with agency codes, regulations, and specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands or tasks on projects.
  • Review and evaluate project progress and communicate effectively on project information in a team or work group setting.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds frequently and stand, walk, or bend continuously.
  • Three (3) years experience and training in construction supervision practices and procedures.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.

Supplemental Information

Unusual Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, fumes, dust, dirt, human blood and body fluids, animal carcasses, unpleasant odors, hazardous materials, vibration, and loud noises while working outdoors.
  • Climbing of ladders or scaffolding, work in confined, elevated/high work areas is required.
  • Required to travel throughout the distance of the Ohio Turnpike.
  • Required to be available for on-call hours to assist with problems affecting sign shop operations including emergency and other situations, considerable overtime may be necessary.
