Summary:

The Echocardiogram Technician performs diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures to support the evaluation and treatment of cardiovascular conditions. Operating under general guidance, this role applies specialized clinical knowledge and independent judgment to produce high-quality echocardiographic images. The technician collaborates with cardiologists and clinical teams to ensure accurate and timely diagnostic support.

Responsibilities:


  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Performs transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), stress echocardiograms, and other cardiac ultrasound procedures per physician orders.
  • Applies knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology to obtain diagnostic-quality images.
  • Ensures proper documentation and labeling of studies in accordance with departmental and accreditation standards.
  • Works independently on assignments of limited to moderate complexity with general guidance.
  • Exercises independent judgment within defined procedures to determine appropriate imaging approaches.
  • Elevates complex or unusual cases to senior technicians or management for review.
  • Adheres to established protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., IAC, ASE).
  • Participates in routine equipment maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Maintains accurate records and contributes to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Interfaces primarily with internal clinical staff and patients in a customer service-oriented manner.
  • Communicates effectively with referring providers to clarify orders and ensure appropriate study selection.
  • May assist with patient education regarding procedures and preparation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education/Skills


  • Graduate of an accredited echocardiogram, cardiovascular sonography, or equivalent program required

Experience


  • 1 - 3 years of echocardiography experience preferred

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications


  • One of the following registrations is required
    • Adult Echocardiography (AE) RDCS by ARDMS
    • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by CCI
    • Vascular Sonography (VS) by ARRT
  • Cardiac Sonography (CS) state license is required in New Mexico
  • BLS required

Work Schedule:

8AM - 5PM Monday-Friday
