The Divisions of Oncology and Hospital Medicine are seeking applicants for the cellular and immunotherapy hospitalist program. The Oncology Hospitalist team will manage the care for patients admitted for inpatient oncology care including cellular therapy, bi-specifics, solid tumor patients receiving immunotherapy and other oncology inpatients.

Oncology Hospitalist Job Details:

The Oncology Hospitalist Service is a collaborative program involving the Department of Medicine Hospitalist Division and the Inova Schar Oncology Service Line. The oncology hospitalist is dually aligned with both Medicine and Oncology service lines and held to shared quality measures and standards.

Clinical Model & Collaboration

  • Provide collaborative care alongside multiple specialty services
  • Partner with the cell therapy physician to round jointly and make medical decisions using a co-management model
  • Coordinate and manage immunotherapy care using established algorithms

Day & Night Shift Responsibilities

  • Day shift hospitalists provide direct patient care and serve as the primary attending for a defined cohort of patients in collaboration with the oncology team
  • Responsible for new daytime admissions and participation in the Rapid Response Team (RRT)
  • Hospitalists rotate through night shifts, providing:
    • Overnight cross-coverage on the oncology floor
    • Bedside evaluations, including RRT events
    • Admissions for the defined patient population

Care Coordination & Communication

  • Conduct TRIO rounding on each patient
  • Communicate regularly with consulting services
  • Attend daily Multidisciplinary Rounds (MDRs) on each unit
  • Provide family updates each shift
  • Educate nursing teams on assigned units to foster open communication and enhance patient care

Academic & Professional Development

  • The Oncology Hospitalist Service is committed to delivering exceptional, specialized medical care while reflecting the strong collaborative culture between Medicine and Oncology at Inova Schar
  • Support is available for applicants interested in pursuing a Hematology/Oncology fellowship
  • Interest in collaborating on publications and quality improvement initiatives is encouraged

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Doctor of Medicine degree or Doctor of Osteopathic degree from an accredited institution, Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Experience: Successful completion of an ACGME physician Internal Medicine residency program

Licensure: Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia and Virginia DEA

Payor Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor

Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services

3 years of experience in hospital medicine
