R and D Sustaining Engineer: Where Innovation Meets Manufacturing Excellence

This R and D Sustaining Engineer opportunity offers the chance to support life-changing medical technology already in the hands of patients. Working within a commercial manufacturing environment in the greater Boston area, this role focuses on sustaining engineering for a hepatic artery infusion manufacturing line. You will play a critical role in ensuring product performance, quality, and compliance while driving continuous improvement through design changes, investigations, and cross-functional collaboration.

This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem solving, working closely with manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams, and supporting products throughout their lifecycle.

Hours and Pay



  • Pay Rate: $46.50 per hour
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
  • Assignment Length: 9-month assignment with possible temp-to-perm

What You Will Do



  • Support a commercial manufacturing line through sustaining R and D engineering activities
  • Provide complaint and CAPA support within a regulated medical device environment
  • Execute ongoing Design History File testing and engineering approvals within the quality management system
  • Initiate and support design changes managed through Arena
  • Participate in product design and development activities, including material testing and specification preparation
  • Design and coordinate engineering tests and experiments
  • Design, procure, and fabricate tooling and fixtures
  • Troubleshoot product and process issues related to design, materials, or manufacturing
  • Analyze test data, draw technical conclusions, and document results
  • Prepare technical reports and engineering documentation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, clinical, and marketing teams
  • Train or provide technical direction to technicians as needed
  • Ensure compliance with quality systems and product development processes



What You Bring



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 2-4 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 0-2 years of experience
  • Prior experience in the medical device industry
  • Experience supporting a manufacturing line in a regulated environment
  • Hands-on experience with design changes and CAPA processes
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
