Candidate will provide Accounting support on a Production operations team for Claim platforms. Candidate will have oversight on claim accounting financial system processing, including resulting accounting entries fed to the general ledger and financial databases, along with feeds to our Self-Insured Banking System and Data Repositories. Candidate will also provide support to the Financial Close and with direct audit support. Candidate will need to develop both technical and accounting expertise of the UHG Claim Accounting processes. Candidates will also work with and provide support to other Financial Reporting and Regulatory areas, and both upstream and downstream customers and business areas.

Opportunity to develop in depth knowledge of critical accounting systems, from both an accounting/financial perspective and a technical data perspective within a major health Insurance company. Candidate will learn and apply Finance/Accounting knowledge and technical experience to resolve issues and improve processes impacting general ledger, subledger and reporting. The ability to impact a valuable area of our business: financial data.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the systematic processing of, and integrity of, Claim Financial Data from upstream source systems through selected UHC platforms, and downstream sources
  • Ensure Financial Controls between selected UHC platforms and upstream sources, along with downstream Financial Systems and the General Ledger are sound and working properly
  • Function as an accountant subject matter expert (SME) on selected UHC claim platforms help resolve production issues and support development efforts
  • Perform SOX controls, cash clearing account reconciliations and detailed data analysis on the claim platforms supported as a SME
  • Manage the Monthly Financial Close from a Financial SME perspective
  • Ensure accuracy of Financial Assignment Process
  • Promote financial data integrity, compliance and auditability of the financial systems
  • Identify and resolve technical, operational and organizational problems
  • Ensure Completeness/Accuracy of Claim Processing Systems and Control
  • Maintain control of data from upstream source systems to downstream outputs at both file level and transactional level
  • Ensure critical processing and control issues are resolved in a timely manner for both incoming source system feeds and downstream outputs
  • Provide Customer Support from a Processing and/or Financial Perspective
  • Prepare and deliver monthly/quarterly reports to in a timely manner
  • Develop an understanding of the systematic processing of Claim Financial Data from upstream source systems through selected UHC platforms, and to downstream sources, to support additional accounting needs within the team

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience working with supporting financial systems interfaces
  • Experience working with compliance items around timeliness of payments and accurate reporting
  • Experience working with both IT and Accounting personnel
  • Experience working on projects and performing testing
  • Experience in financial systems processing
  • Solid understanding of Accounting and ability to leverage that knowledge
  • Ability to understand systems flows and interdependencies
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel with ability to learn additional data access skills/languages
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven excellent analytical skills and demonstrated ability to automate processes
  • Proven decision making skills
  • Proven track record of delivering high quality results
  • Proven Excel and SQL skills
  • Proven ability to analyze and understand data requirements and process flows
  • Proven attention to detail and ability to apply critical thinking to resolve issues/questions
  • Proven ability to communicate across a broad spectrum of organizations (IT, Controllership, Operations, etc.) and a broad range of grade levels within UHC
  • Proven forward-thinking and innovative

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience with querying large data sets. Understanding of SAS and/or SQL programming

Risks (work impacted if position left unfilled):

Inability for the FDM Claim Accounting team to properly support the Financial Close, annual Claim Accounting Audits, additional Internal and External Audits along with systematic interface and processing issues impacting financial repositories, the general ledger, self funded banking, Treasury, ASO Customers Reporting and various development efforts.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $72,800 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
