$2,500 Sign-On Bonus*
This Senior Clinician position is the primary case manager for the Addiction Medicine Clinic's Urgent Care team. AMC's Urgent Care is in its first year of operation, and the person in this position will shape the continuing development of this new initiative. Provides triage and coordination for individuals seeking services on a same-day or walk-in basis and conducts scheduled assessments and admissions for individuals seeking Office Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT). The Senior Clinician is also assigned individuals for ongoing care coordination including supportive counseling, psychoeducation, relapse prevention, person-centered care planning, and diagnosing. Completes detailed documentation according to strict requirements and firm deadlines. May have a leadership role and provide staff guidance in supervisor's absence or as assigned. May serve as a licensure supervisor to staff and/or student interns. May directly supervise and authorize services provided by unlicensed staff. May provide individual or group therapy as assigned.

This position is part of a multi-disciplinary, team-based model including medical and behavioral health staff collaborating to serve individuals in the program. Shared responsibilities include conducting urine drug screens and breathalyzers, review of Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) reports, communication with the pharmacy, answering phone calls to the clinic, and assisting individuals onsite.

AMC provides Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), primarily to individuals with opioid use disorders who are prescribed Suboxone. Many of the individuals served have co-occurring psychiatric disorders or are from high-risk priority populations.

The standard work week for this position will include Saturdays, and some evening hours. This position may occasionally include Sundays. A condensed work week may be possible.

Position may be underfilled as a Behavioral Health Clinician in Residence; the underfill requirements are stated below in the Employment Standards section.

  • In addition, to recognize and reinforce the importance of professional development and enhance future recruitment of licensed professionals, if approved, the licensure supervisors will receive a stipend of $1,500 paid out biweekly over a 12-month period whether for one or more Department of Health licensure candidates.

Illustrative Duties

  • Performs complex evaluations and makes independent diagnoses using Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders;
  • Conducts intensive clinical interventions;
  • Collaborates with service professionals as participant/lead of Interdisciplinary Team (IDT);
  • Consults with professionals on a variety of problems including delivery of needed services for clinically complex cases;
  • Provides liaison to community agencies to facilitate communication and service provision for clients requiring multiple services.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, theories, and methods of the psychological and social development of the individual;
  • Thorough knowledge of intake procedures, social history development, and interviewing techniques;
  • Thorough knowledge of major schools of treatment of emotionally and socially disturbed individuals;
  • Knowledge of psychiatric, psychological, and/or sociological terminology and concepts;
  • Ability to conduct mental health assessments and apply treatment approaches/modalities;
  • Ability to formulate diagnoses for clients with acute, chronic, severe mental illness;
  • Ability to diagnostically interpret data obtained from psychological test results, social histories, and interviews;
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public and private sector organizations, community groups, and the general public;
  • Ability to monitor and analyze the impact of psychotropic medications;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing; plus two years of clinical experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a current license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia in one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist.

UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS:
This vacancy may be underfilled at the level of Behavioral Health Clinician in Residence (S26, $75,474.26 - $125,790.50). The employment standards for the Behavioral Health Clinician in Residence are:

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing; plus two years of clinical experience.
  • Ability to register as a licensed eligible mental health professional within 90 days of the appointment and able to qualify for licensure requirement to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 3 years of employment in one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LNP).

Upon completion of an underfill agreement (which will require that the employee meet the employment standards stated above in addition to obtaining competencies and licensures defined by the hiring agency) the employee will be elevated to the level of Behavioral Health Senior Clinician.

Note: A registered licensed eligible mental health professional has been approved by the applicable Virginia health regulatory board as a supervisee in clinical social work or a resident in clinical psychology, professional counseling, substance abuse treatment practice, or marriage and family therapy.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. Requires a National Provider Identifier.
  • This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in an Office Based Addiction Treatment program
  • Work experience with individuals receiving Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD)
  • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)
  • Experience working in urgent care or similar setting serving walk-ins

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job may be located in non-traditional office settings in the community. Ability to observe, process, and document clinical information and implement interventions aligned with client needs. Must be able to commute to other locations for services and meetings. May require lifting up to 15 lbs. Visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor and must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to communicate clearly with others orally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
