AUTOMATION MECHANICAL ENGINEER COMSTOCK PARK, MICHIGAN - LEAR ASI AUTOMATION DIVISION As a member of the Automation team, the Automation Engineer will be responsible forLeading, Supporting, Implementing, and Managing Automation projections while driving innovation in advancements. The candidate will use their vast knowledge, experience, and resourcefulness to lead and implement automation cells and drive standards across North America. The candidate must be able to develop Automation cell concepts, design EOATs, components, different mechanisms and assist with developing documentation standards. The candidate must also possess the skill to project lead other Integrators as a subject matter expert. Advantages of working at Lear in the Automation group:

Automation Controls Role:
- Work closely with Automation team, ASI Project Managers, & Lear manufacturing teams, to develop systems and develop systems and complete projects.
- Provides machine, mechanism, and tooling design along with drawing creation while under minimal technical supervision.
- Prepares drawing packages for manufacture and assembly, ensuring they are complete and accurate, meeting all customer drawing requirements as well as proper drafting standards
- Collaborates with shop members prior to and during the build
- Deliberates with Automation Controls engineers to design for integration and select pneumatic components
- Uses SolidWorks & DaftSight to develop equipment, machine, mechanism, or EAOT designs that meet customer specifications and the company quote
- Knowledgeable in standards, processes, and best practices and able to use them to complete duties.
- Develop predictive maintenance indicators to increase reliability and reduce downtime
- Supports legacy cell designs
- Shares design methodologies, productivity tools, standards, processes, and legacy information for increased knowledge and experience within the company
- Mentors less experienced design staff and assists in the development of concepts and design methodologies for projects
- Work with integrators on outsourced cells to ensure they meet the Lear Standards.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience with raw materials, fabrication processes, and other techniques for maximizing the fabrication efficiency of equipment through the shop
- Experienced in drawing creation for assemblies, weldments and details to include all dimensions, tolerances, and documentation to allow the manufacture and assembly of designs that meet specified requirements
- Motivated to initiate and implement tasks, strategies, and techniques in a goal-oriented manner to increase productivity and profitability
- Technically creative with an understanding of mechanical functions to provide solutions in a robust and economical manner
- Capable of evaluating quotations, specifications, and documentation to discern functional requirements, identify missing information, and define tasks for mechanical designs
- Organized and flexible in work functions allowing for dedicated, multitasking, and task interrupted duties
- Analytical and decisive to define, evaluate and solve problems in an organized process
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with competency in computer and Microsoft Office products
- Ability to collaborate in team environments while maintaining individual duties effectively
- Communication with suppliers/Integrators to aid in design decision.
- Time management skills to reach design process milestones within the given timelines
- Experience with working with automated cells including Robot EOAT
- This position focuses on an engineer the has experience in designing Robot EOAT along with the entire robot cell (Conveyor, guarding, robot placement, EOAT, Sensors, Cable tray, ETC).
- Needs to be able change designs quickly when changes are requested
- Ability to travel up to 20% to customer sites to capture design info or assist installation
Minimum Qualifications:
- Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years' experience in a machine design role at an automation/machine build shop.
