Covia is looking for a dynamic Mechanic who will positively impact the Operations team at its Elco, IL. location.

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:



  • Practice all facets of the safety and health policies while adhering to the SLAM risk method within the sphere of all tasks
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all safety procedures concerning the maintenance mechanic position, including but not limited to, the (NFPA70E-Based) arc flash electrical hazards safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform a Pre-Task Risk Assessment or JSA (Job Safety Analysis) utilizing the Covia Corporation Slam Risks Checklist program.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all Federal and local - site specific Lockout & Tag-out procedures for working on or testing mobile and or stationary machinery and equipment.
  • The ability to work from elevated work platforms and ladders using personal protection equipment such as, full body safety harnesses and lanyards.
  • Layout and fabrication of items such as, guards, chutes, etc. from rough sketches and dimensions.
  • Knowledge of servicing and repairing bulk handling equipment such as, screw conveyors, bucket elevators and pneumatic conveying equipment.
  • The ability to make decisions on equipment repair.
  • Other duties as assigned or required by supervisor.



The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Experience in cutting, welding, and fabricating preferred
  • Experience with operating and repairing various machinery
  • Some electrical knowledge a plus (replacing fuses, motors, etc.)


  • To be available for scheduled 24 hour call out.
