Working under general supervision of the Sr Director, Data Engineering and Science, the Manager of Data Engineering is responsible for managing the data engineering activities in support of all corporate information systems across multiple platforms. Responsibilities include working with our Business Transformation team and business partners on new project assessments, resource planning and allocation, solution design and project execution; mentoring and training team members and providing day-to-day leadership; and manages and implements process improvement initiatives. Works directly with the Data Governance and Data Analytics leaders to collaborate on data operations lifecycle policies and project collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the PMO to assess projects and priorities, resource allocation and capacity planning and project tracking.
  • Leads design and development initiatives, specifically providing technical leadership and mentoring.
  • Directly interacts with business stakeholders as required, to gather requirements, provide updates and support implementations and any necessary escalations for post-deployment support.
  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert in the areas of data systems and integration.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and lead efforts to implement solutions.
  • Collaborates with Data Governance and Data Analytics teams to provide input regarding processes and policies.
  • Continues professional development through Connection University offerings as well as self-learning through various educational opportunities to keep abreast of technology advancements and leading trends.
  • Establishes and communicates realistic performance expectations, motivates employees to achieve high performance through goal development; communicates performance improvement needs, supports employees learning and development, and conducts effective and timely performance evaluations.
  • Encourages feedback and participation; provides support and direction when needed; creates an environment for self-motivation and promotes cooperation and teamwork.
  • Performs all other duties or special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Advanced working knowledge of multiple data integration and engineering tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Informatica, Databricks and replication engines, such as Fivetran.
  • Strong working knowledge of Source Control applications such as Git or Bitbucket.
  • Strong working knowledge of principles and techniques of the application development lifecycle process.
  • Strong working knowledge of logical and physical database design concepts.
  • Strong working knowledge of business Intelligence applications such as Power BI.
  • Proven ability to facilitate knowledge transfer sessions and technical walkthroughs to continuously build cross-team support coverage.
  • Proven ability to institute and drive development quality and governance.
  • Discreet with demonstrated ability to work in a confidential executive environment using good judgment while acting as an ambassador for the company.
  • Ability to work with architects and technical leads directly to establish and maintain data management policies and processes.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to facilitate design sessions with business partners and technical resources.
  • Intuitive with ability to perceive others' feelings and motives quickly from subtle signals.
  • Decisive with ability to make a prompt determination and substantiate decision if challenged.
