What this position entails

Our Business Development department is charged with identifying, creating, and launching innovative software solutions. We explore emerging opportunities across multiple markets to deliver products that help clients solve real problems. As an R&D Product Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in bringing our mission to life. In this multifaceted role, you'll operate as product owner and project manager, guiding new ideas from initial concept through prototyping, launch, and early market adoption. You'll maintain product backlogs, define and prioritize requirements, and work closely with developers to deliver MVPs and iterate based on user feedback. Your ability to coordinate across teams and establish new operational processes will help us move quickly and efficiently as we break new ground.

You'll also serve as a client-facing subject matter expert, engaging with customers to understand their needs, validate product concepts, and support early sales conversations. Whether developing prototypes, designing proofs-of-concept, or assisting with business plan creation, you'll be central to shaping solutions that will help drive long-term growth. What you will be doing

Product Development & Requirements



  • Manage and maintain the R&D product development backlog, ensuring prioritization and timely execution of high-impact initiatives
  • Translate business, operational, and clinical needs into clear business requirement documents, backlog items, and process diagrams
  • Collaborate closely with engineering to define requirements, clarify questions, and ensure development delivers meaningful outcomes
  • Assist with user acceptance testing (UAT), identifying defects and ensuring each release meets quality standards
  • Rapidly develop prototypes and lightweight MVPs (Minimum Viable Products), prioritizing speed and agility to validate concepts and iterate based on early feedback
  • Champion a culture of rapid learning and experimentation to lay the foundation for long-term revenue growth


Project Management



  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and timely delivery of project milestones
  • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and status reports for new product initiatives
  • Facilitate regular check-ins and stand-ups to monitor progress, identify risks, and resolve roadblocks
  • Help establish and refine operational processes and best practices for launching new solutions
  • Track project dependencies, manage resource allocation, and proactively communicate changes to stakeholders


Client-Facing & Subject Matter Expertise



  • Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for clients, articulating product capabilities and technical concepts in an accessible manner
  • Gather and synthesize client feedback to inform product requirements and ongoing development priorities
  • Lead client discovery sessions and product demonstrations to validate concepts and ensure solutions meet real-world needs
  • Collaborate with clients to design proofs-of-concepts tailored to their specific challenges
  • Support sales teams in early-stage conversations by providing technical expertise and answering client questions


What we need



  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in product management, product development, software R&D, or related roles, preferably within healthcare technology or other data-intensive domains
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret data to improve outcomes or answer business questions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Jira or other relevant software
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with user acceptance testing (UAT) and quality assurance processes
  • Experience conducting or supporting ROI, efficiency, or value analyses in collaboration with sales or product teams

  • Advanced degree, diploma, or certification in a related field (e.g., Product Management, Business Analysis, Healthcare Informatics)
  • Experience working with clinical data, such as medical claims, electronic health records (EHR), or other healthcare datasets
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and experience working in a HIPAA-compliant environment

Location

This position is open to remote work. The expected application deadline for this job is April 1, 2026. Applicants must be willing to travel to the Milliman office in Brookfield, WI and travel to client sites, industry conferences, etc. (most often day trips, nationwide, up to 25% travel).

Compensation

The overall salary range for this role is $71,700 - $199,065. A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.

For candidates residing in:



  • Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York City, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia:




    • $82,455 - $131,905 if overall experience is less than 5 years; and
    • $120,635 - $199,065 for experience greater than 5 years.




  • All other states:

    • $71,700 - $114,700 if overall experience is less than 5 years; and
    • $104,900 - $173,100 for experience greater than 5 years.




A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
