A Day in the Life: Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the utilities department at a facility that also may produce its own power. What You'll Be Doing:
- Coordinate with Production Operations to ensure all utilities (i.e. Boilers, Water Treatment System, Wastewater Treatment, Refrigeration, Air compressors, etc.) are operating efficiently and within permitted limits to support production supply and quality demands.
- Monitor daily operations reports based on quality/operation and prepare a utilities operations report.
- Work with maintenance personnel to identify and correct mechanical and production flow problems.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee all work being performed by contractors and physical plant employees within area of responsibility.
- Investigates abnormal operating events or equipment failures to determine cause; adjusts, repairs or modifications as needed.
- Provide input of Operating and Capital budget proposals.
- Responsible for hiring, disciplining and training personnel and ensuring all employees are adequately trained.
- Ensure unit consumption targets and yield expectations are met while minimizing production downtime.
- Maintain good employee morale, ensuring employees are treated consistently and fairly.
- Train personnel on efficiency, safety issues, productivity, quality control, environmental, and good manufacturing practices.
- Ensure Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Cleaning Schedules followed.
- Ensure Safety Checks are done- Fire Extinguisher, Glass, Solvent Safety Devices.
- Order supplies related utilities operations and maintenance, including but not limited to caustic, phosphoric acid, hexane, water treatment chemicals, etc.
- Maintain regulatory compliance with the applicable government bodies regarding effluent quality and discharge into bodies of water (i.e. river).
Skills/Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
- 5 or more years of related work experience in utilities management with 2 or more being in a supervisory role.
- Supervisory management experience in union environment preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Proficient computer skills & software knowledge, including Lotus notes, Word, Excel, and SAP.
