Hours & Location

  • Location: Main Campus (Main Inpatient Hospital) - 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10065

  • Shifts available: Monday - Friday from 9 AM - 1 PM & 1 PM - 5 PM.

    • Please indicate all shifts you are available for in your application.

Volunteer Opportunity

This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in Physical or Occupational Therapy or anyone who enjoys supporting children and helping create a positive, engaging environment in a healthcare setting. Volunteers work closely with staff in the Rehab Therapy department to help keep the gym running smoothly and to support therapists in preparing for patient sessions.

As a volunteer, you may:

  • Assist therapists by preparing materials and activity setups such as obstacle courses, stacking activities, or ball tosses.

  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe therapy environment by changing linens and lightly cleaning equipment between sessions.

  • Support staff with general room turnover and preparation for upcoming patients.

  • Encourage a welcoming, energetic atmosphere for pediatric patients and families.

  • Work collaboratively with therapists and other volunteers to ensure sessions run efficiently.

Please note: Volunteers do not provide hands-on clinical care; all direct patient therapy is performed by licensed therapists.

Who We're Looking For

  • Age 18+

  • Able to commit to a weekly 4-hour shift for at least 6 months.

  • Physically able to assist with light cleaning and movement of equipment (20-30 lbs), kneeling, standing, or floor sitting as needed.

  • Must be flexible and willing to support various areas based on daily needs, as directed by Volunteer Supervisor.

  • If you are a former or current MSK patient, you must be out of active treatment for at least one year.

  • Friendly, reliable, and comfortable engaging with patients, families, and staff.

Onboarding Process (average 4-6 weeks)

  • Virtual interview (based on scheduling needs and program fit)

  • 2-3 reference checks

  • Background check & drug screen (18+ only)

  • Medical clearance (flu and other immunizations required; at applicant's expense)

*To stay active in the program, onboarding must be completed within 4-6 weeks. If your application is pending any onboarding tasks for 30+ days, your application may be rejected.

This is an unpaid volunteer role. The Volunteer Department does not oversee paid employment, internships, shadowing, or educational programs. Our program provides meaningful, long-term opportunities to support patients and staff.
