Description

Brown and Caldwell (BC) is excited to announce a full-time opportunity for a Technical Editor within our growth-oriented engineering, environmental consulting, and construction firm. As a key member of the West Business Unit Administrative Team, the Technical Editor plays an essential role in delivering high quality written materials to our clients.

In this role, you will review and refine a wide range of technical documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency. You will help translate complex technical information into clear, effective content, while upholding BC's standards. This position works closely with technical and administrative staff across disciplines to develop comprehensive, well-crafted documentation. Our ideal candidate brings strong editing skills, experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

A hybrid work assignment from one of our offices in Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, Boise, Denver, Salt Lake City, Dallas or Houston is preferred but fully remote work from Central, Mountain and Pacific time zones is allowed for a candidate with the right experience.

Key responsibilities include:



  • Reviewing, editing, and proofreading technical documents for accuracy, clarity, and readability.
  • Working with authors or technical experts to to produce high quality deliverables; clarifying ambiguous points and suggesting improvements for readability and comprehension.
  • Verifying and checking for consistency in data, terminology, and the use of symbols and units of measure.
  • Ensuring the use of proper technical terminology and maintaining a consistent style and tone in line with the targeted audience.
  • Collaborating with the technical team to understand product details and requirements.
  • Ensuring accuracy, clarity, consistency, and alignment with our style guide.
  • Formatting documents by using company standard templates and styles.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Proofreading and revising documents to ensure they are error-free.
  • Adhering to and improving documentation standards and guidelines and updating BC style guide per latest trends and best practices.


Required Qualifications:



  • A minimum of 5yearsofexperienceasa Technical Editor, Technical Writer, or similar related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with emphasis on writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand text.
  • Strong time and task management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented.
  • Detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills, proactive mentality, and ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to be resourceful in researching issues, solving problems, learning new tools/systems, and offering creative solutions.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) knowledge of Bluebeam and/or Adobe and proficiency with internet applications.
  • Bachelor'sdegreeinrelatedfieldordemonstratedequivalent.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 7+ yearsofexperienceastechnical editor or similar related experience.
  • Prior related experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.
  • Prior experience with Chicago Manual of Style or Associated Press Stylebook.
  • Familiarity with working with templates is a plus.


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $58,000 - $79,000

Location B: $64,000 - $87,000

Location C: $70,000 - $95,000
