What to Expect
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced cell engineer to join the Cell Technology team to investigate the next generation of cell technologies and evaluate feasibility for Tesla products. The job will include setting up a framework to quantitatively assess trade-offs on a variety of new cell technologies, leveraging existing materials, design, and modeling tools. The role also will require driving cross-functional discussions related to technology and engineering trade-offs.
What You'll Do
- Analyze next generation cell (component and system) technologies' data and claims and add to Tesla's knowledge base
- Develop and analyze targeted test plans to test/evaluate performance claims
- Construct lifetime, electrochemical, and economic models for next generation products based on limited data
- Communicate findings and relevance with different teams across Tesla
- Be a member of a cross functional product development team to help determine the ideal cell chemistry and design for various vehicle products
- Will include some travel as part of the job scope (< 20%)
- Lead a small team of engineers
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of industry experience in lithium-ion batteries with a strong background in cell chemistry and technology
- Modelling (lithium-ion cell system) experience preferred - this role requires translating limited data and claims into quantifiable models
- Expertise in data analysis and visualization with MATLAB/Python required
- Strong analytical and organizational skills and ability to manage several projects at once in a highly variable and uncertain environment

Expected Compensation
$91,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
