Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lead Engineer - Network Engineering.
In this role, the Lead Network Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design, implementation, and operationalization of enterprise data network platforms. This role develops comprehensive system design documentation to guide deployment, support ongoing operations, and ensure consistency, scalability, and alignment with best practices. The Lead Network Engineer collaborates closely with Architecture, Applications, and IT Security teams to ensure network solutions effectively support the needs of our clinical, administrative, educational, and research functions. This includes conducting technical assessments, serving as a liaison with strategic partners and vendors, and ensuring platforms are maintained in accordance with vendor guidelines, all aimed at minimizing technology debt and sustaining long-term infrastructure health.
Job Responsibilities: As a technical leader, this individual provides guidance and mentorship to both Network Engineering and Operations teams, driving the adoption of modern technologies and methodologies to deliver resilient, high-performance network infrastructure.

- Advance Network Platform Evolution Champion continuous improvement by evaluating emerging technologies and industry best practices. Define and maintain a forward-looking roadmap that supports a scalable, collaborative, and future-ready network architecture
- Collaborate on Application Performance Optimization Partner with MCIT architects and cross-functional teams to design network solutions that improve enterprise application delivery, ensuring low latency, high availability, and optimal user experience across clinical, research, and administrative environments.
- Lead Security, Compliance, and Resilience Initiatives Work closely with information security teams to enforce network segmentation, zero-trust principles, access controls, and threat mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, SOX, GDPR) and design highly resilient architectures with built-in redundancy and failover capabilities.
- Perform Proactive Capacity Planning Conduct regular assessments of network utilization and growth trends to ensure infrastructure can support the expanding demands of the Medical Center, including new facilities, digital health initiatives, and research workloads.
- Own End-to-End Network Project Leadership Lead major network initiatives, including migrations, hardware refreshes, and cloud integrations, from concept through deployment. Develop detailed implementation plans, manage risks, coordinate stakeholders, and enforce rigorous change control processes to minimize service disruption.

- Design and Deploy Enterprise-Grade Network Solutions Lead the architecture and implementation of secure, high-performance networks across data centers, campuses, remote sites, and cloud platforms. Solutions include LAN, WAN, wireless, SD-WAN, and zero-trust connectivity models aligned with organizational needs.
- Serve as a Trusted Technical Liaison and Advisor Build strong partnerships across engineering, operations, security, and vendor teams to align technical direction with business priorities. Communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders and executive leadership through presentations on project status, technical strategy, and risk management.

- Accelerate Secure Adoption of Emerging Technologies Enable seamless, secure access to applications and data, anytime, anywhere, by rapidly integrating innovative solutions such as zero trust, SASE, automation, and cloud networking into the enterprise environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise network engineering and infrastructure design, with a strong focus on large-scale, mission-critical environments.
- Deep hands-on expertise with Cisco IOS, Cisco hardware platforms, IP routing, and switching technologies. Proven experience with advanced networking services including IP firewalls, load balancers, and multicast routing.
- Comprehensive knowledge of core and emerging network technologies: TCP/IP, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, MPLS, VRF, SNMP, IPSec, VPNs, Ethernet switching, LAN/WAN design, service provider networks, and extranet architectures. Familiarity with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and SD-WAN solutions is essential.
- In-depth understanding of Cisco and Arista network architectures, including data center, campus, and edge deployments. Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot complex multi-vendor environments.
- Experience with hybrid and multi-cloud networking, including public cloud adoption frameworks (AWS, Azure), workload migration strategies, and secure connectivity models between on-premises and cloud environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CCIE preferred; minimum of CCNP.
- Proficiency with commercial enterprise network security and services, including firewalls, IPS/IDS, DNS, DHCP, web security gateways, TACACS+, NAC (Network Access Control), and Zero Trust principles.
- Proficiency in network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, Terraform) and APIs for configuration management, change orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives using formal or agile project management methodologies.
- Experience managing timelines, risks, budgets, and stakeholder expectations across technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong background in ITIL-aligned processes: Change Advisory Board (CAB), incident management, problem resolution, and service continuity planning.
- Experience designing resilient architectures that support DR site failover, and RTO/RPO (Recovery Time Objective / Recovery Point Objective) recovery strategies.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-focused language for non-technical stakeholders, including executives and leadership teams. Strong collaboration and relationship-building abilities are essential.
