Farnsworth Group is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead for HVAC/Building Systems in the posting location below. In this role, you will assume multi-project management responsibilities for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty piping system engineering and design for buildings. Projects will be in the areas of healthcare, commercial, industrial, and educational facilities. This role can be entrepreneurial, with the successful candidate running projects, mentoring more experienced engineers, training junior engineers, engaging in business development and the proposal process, while being supported by a great team of engineers and drafters. It is client-facing and reports to a senior engineering manager, who will also provide mentoring and training opportunities to help you grow.

What You'll Do:


  • Prepare accurate HVAC, plumbing, and specialty piping system construction drawings, including specifications.
  • Perform construction administration, including submittal reviews and project revisions during construction.
  • Prepare preliminary schematics through final designs for projects, including calculations, equipment selection, and layouts.
  • Actively engage in and assume responsibility for code research and application.
  • Interface with other disciplines, clients, and contractors, leading projects to successful completion.
  • Manage projects, provide leadership, mentoring, and coordination of the production staff.
  • Assist in maintaining project design budgets and schedules while pursuing quality results.
  • Perform quality control reviews of HVAC and plumbing design work done by others.
  • Assist in business development activities, including writing fee proposals and conducting project scoping walks with potential clients.
  • Other duties, as assigned.



What You'll Need:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
  • 12+ years of professional experience in HVAC and plumbing design for buildings.
  • Experience managing one or more client projects of various sizes.
  • A Professional Engineering License (PE) is required.
  • Design experience relative to medium/large commercial and institutional facilities.
  • Strong familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. Bluebeam Revu is a plus.
  • Experience with Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, or similar.
  • Ability to be a strong and communicative team player in a multi-disciplinary environment, able to lead projects from start to finish.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience writing and editing specifications.
  • Ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously

Salary Range: $106,000 - $165,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity)
