Position Summary

Responsible for strategy and planning to align business operations with the company's mission and goals. Researches and analyzes industry and competitive trends to identify emerging market opportunities and strategic areas of interest. Identifies and prioritizes product and service improvement opportunities and creates plans for implementation. Develops complex forecasting models, budgets, resource allocation and plans for projects. Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of company's internal operations to develop forward-looking focus for business. Provides business support to the business unit's Senior Executive Leader. The Business Management Strategist is responsible for the coordination of resources, activities, and information to drive the priorities and initiatives of the organization for effective decision making. This position will work directly with the business unit's Executive Leadership Team in the drive towards operational excellence and strong organizational performance, including operational results, financial performance, business analytics/analysis and customer and business outcomes. The Business Management Strategist will assist in the development and implementation of collaborative and constructive internal/external relationships to facilitate performance improvement. Researches and analyzes industry and competitive trends to identify emerging market opportunities and strategic areas of interest. Identifies and prioritizes process / service improvement opportunities and creates plans for implementation. Develops complex forecasting models, budgets, resource allocation and plans for projects. Utilizes knowledge of company's internal operations to develop forward-looking focus for business. Requires ability to influence others to develop/implement/accept best practices and approaches, and ability to communicate and influence executive leadership.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Consults, influences and contributes to the development, management and implementation of departmental strategies and programs
  • Leads and facilitates conversations with leadership to understand strategies and deliver a consolidated roadmap that outlines strategies, objectives, dependencies, milestones, outcomes
  • Performs business and customer analytics for the Executive Leadership Team to provide input into business strategies, business cases, goal setting and continuous improvement
  • Supports the Executive Leadership Team(s) by leading efforts to drive and monitor the performance of the organization against key goals
  • Leads the design, implementation and ongoing management of critical performance reporting and delivery
  • Establishes collaborative and strong relationships with operational leaders and decision makers throughout the organization and effectively represents the organization in varying assignments
  • Leads short- and long-term resource planning, staffing strategy and annual budget development and review
  • Collaborates with key departments and business strategy leaders across the organization ensuring alignment in developing and executing operational and business planning
  • Actively monitors department business plans and budgets to maintain dependencies, milestones, latest estimates and develops projections as needed
  • Ensures end-to-end implementation of special projects and key change programs across applicable disciplines including, but not limited to, strategy, project management, lean six sigma, and other business outcomes
  • Provides leadership, advisory and action plan that optimizes resources, activities, and information to drive the priorities and initiatives of the organization for effective decision making
  • Manages operational risk/compliance/audit items leveraging an assurance framework to monitor and improve performance
  • Identifies issues that impede strategy or execution success; provides guidance, direction and recommendations to resolve impediments
  • Provides support for the various company committees, including board and governance committees; ensures information for committees is prepared and delivered to the appropriate organization within the documented and requested timeframes
  • Provides support in coordinating regular meetings with focus on objectives that drive results with clear outcomes and ensures that leadership attention and focus are on the most important areas for success
  • Responsible for developing and disseminating operations reports regarding business unit performance and business contribution
  • Responsible for the development and execution of the communication strategy to team; partners with the team to implement enhanced communication and transparency
  • Drives internal communications for team meetings, townhalls and other enterprise communications
  • Manages executive leadership communications for customer or partner engagements, as well as speaking engagements
  • Drives and coordinates executive leadership engagement action planning
  • Effectively shares ideas, knowledge, or experience by means of mentoring, training, and other collaboration with team members at all levels
  • Identifies opportunities to create cross group collaboration and synergies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Extensive experience in program management, management consulting, technology management, or business management
Strong communication, cross group collaboration, project management, time management, and negotiation skills
Keen business acumen, results oriented and is able to comprehend/navigate both industry and internal organizational dynamics
Ability to articulate the business problem to be analyzed, quickly identify the critical elements of the problem, achieve a high-quality answer in a timely fashion, and synthesize answers to resonate with decision makers
Extensive knowledge of PowerPoint presentation design and development, Excel, and Word
Demonstrated ability to facilitate team building with employees across various disciplines and at all levels, including ability to engage people in productive activities without formal authority
Exceptional organizational, analytical, planning, multi-tasking, negotiation, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills
Adaptable to a fast-paced and quickly changing environment, able to prioritize and multi-task, to meet critical deadlines
Understands financial transactions to review budget/actual information
Understands the corporate budget and staffing process
Demonstrated ability to analyze data and create reports
Strong presentation skills and has demonstrated ability to present to senior leadership forums
Demonstrated track record of achievement
Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a business field, such as MBA, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Technology, etc.
  • Professional Certification, such as PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP, CPA, CFA, PMP, Six Sigma/LEAN, Agile/SCRUM or other related certifications
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and analysis verbally, in written format, and in presentation format for audiences at every level of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in generation, transmission, gas, or utility operations

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; or similar level of analytical capability gained through demonstrated success in a related position.
Required Certifications
Working Environment
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events. After hours work may be required.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
