What We Need:
We are looking for an intern to join our Design Technologies team in Muscatine, IA, during Summer 2026!

What You Will Do:

HNI's summer internship program is a great opportunity for first-hand experience in your field of interest. You'll work on one or more projects that create value for our business partners. HNI's large, paid internship program includes exposure to leadership, professional development opportunities (Lunch and Learns, training, skill building workshops), support through a mentor relationship, volunteering, and social events!
Company-paid apartment-style housing may also be available, based on student's geographic need and current housing capacity. Depending on the flexibility of the role, the intern may have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule.

The Design Technologies team is an award-winning team responsible for creating and implementing best-in-class design tools for our customers that meet their everchanging workplace design needs. As a member of this team, you will gain experience in Revit and CET Designer software platforms, space planning, UI/UX design, and technical furniture specification. The intern will report directly to a NCIDQ certified manager. Our interns are a key source of future talent for entry-level design careers.

What You Have:

  • Candidates should be working towards a Bachelor's degree in design or a related field. Junior level coursework is preferred.
  • Minimum 2.8 GPA
  • Preference will be given to applicants with relevant work experience, internships, or involvement in related activities such as tutoring or business fraternities
  • Interest in commercial design
  • Portfolio containing examples of design work must be submitted
  • Experience in design software, such as Revit, CET, or AutoCAD required
What You're Good At:
  • Research & Competitive Analysis - Ability to research competitors, compare tools/platforms, and synthesize findings into insights and recommendations.
  • Technical Curiosity / Software Aptitude - Interest in learning design software and understanding how tools are used in real-world commercial design workflows.
  • Presentation & Storytelling Skills - Ability to create a clear, well-organized presentation that communicates findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Design Thinking & Visualization - Basic understanding of rendering concepts and visual communication; ability to think from the perspective of A&D firms and dealers.
  • Self-Starter & Ownership Mindset - High personal motivation with the ability to take initiative, work independently, and own projects from research through final presentation.
  • Project Management Skills - Strong experience managing projects in academic or work settings, including planning, prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and coordinating deliverables.
