The Position

2026 Summer Intern - Instrument Control Software

Department Summary

Our team develops software that orchestrates the complex scientific workflow involved in next gen sequencing. We collaborate closely with systems integration, scientific, and hardware teams to understand requirements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure seamless system operation.

This internship position is located in Santa Clara, California, On site.

The Opportunity

  • Design, write, modify, test, and debug software applications. Write maintainable, reliable, reusable, secure, performant code.

  • Participate in design and code reviews to ensure adherence to architecture, coding standards and best practices.

  • Contribute to project documentation, including design specifications, and technical documentation.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are

Required Education:
You meet one of the following criteria:

- Must be pursuing or have attained an Associate's Degree.

- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

- Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).

- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

Required Majors:

  • Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline

Required Skills:

  • Proficient in Java and Python

  • Experience with micro-services architecture, messaging, multi-threading

  • Familiarity with database management using Postgres or other relational database

  • Knowledge of testing tools and frameworks, including Junit, TestNG, Mockito

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and issue tracking tools (Jira)

  • Experience with back-end framework such as Spring, Spring Boot

  • Proficiency in a Linux environment

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00-$50.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
