Position Purpose

Acting on own initiative, the Director Project Management is responsible for collaborating with stakeholders to execute key strategic initiatives and lead the project management process for successful implementation of the cornerstone priority projects. This position will ensure successful delivery of major corporate projects through portfolio prioritization, project governance, resource change management, and key stakeholder collaboration. The role is also responsible for maintaining a standardized approach for managing projects across functions with a defined scope to achieve financial goals and budgets, including a regular cadence of project progress reporting to all levels of the organization.

Functional Responsibility

  • Oversees, directs, and manages departmental activities and team performance
  • Drives and models company culture and holds self, peers, and direct reports accountable for demonstrating a constructive company culture through influential, personal behavior and actions
  • Develops and implements clearly defined operational and individual goals to develop employees, achieve productivity levels, and to attain the company's strategic plan
  • Researches best practices, stays abreast of industry trends, and maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Executes departmental financial objectives by preparing budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective action
  • Achieves departmental results to ensure the effective delivery of the strategic plan
  • Develops staffing needs; attracts, motivates, and retains a workforce with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve goals and objectives
  • Promotes and ensures a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
  • Leads the way and prepares departmental staff for success in a continually changing environment
  • Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
  • Addresses employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner; notifies HRBusiness Partner and keeps immediate manager informed as appropriate
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions
  • Coaches, guides, and develops direct reports; fully engages in the GPS (Performance Management) process; provides high-quality feedback, and ensures proper GPS documentation of employee performance, recognition, and deficiencies

Essential Duties

  • Manages the company's strategic major projects and new product development portfolio with regular progress reporting to the EVP Strategic Initiatives (or executive committee) and Senior Leadership Team. Develops and leads the process for prioritization, cross functional resource allocation, and project approval
  • Defines scope of work for enterprise projects in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders. Leads the reporting of project reports including key milestones, timelines, progress toward deliverables, risks, and financial considerations. Ensures executive and stakeholder project reviews are conducted on a regular cadence to provide appropriate steering and escalation of issues for resolution
  • Proactively assists key stakeholders to translate strategic projects into actionable plans. Ensures collaboration in addressing resource constraints to build a project plan that meets schedule and financial requirements. Provides guidance, support, and oversight to project teams to ensure the most important projects maintain focus to meet business goals
  • Identifies potential risks involved in project execution and develops plans to mitigate where possible. Translates complex project data into actionable issues to facilitate informed decision making for the team
  • Leads the Executive Innovation Committee approving all new products for development. Collaborates with Marketing, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Winemaking, and Operations to ensure all new products are launched as approved and all changes/cost optimizations to existing products are managed within the life cycle project management process. Oversees the postmortem project evaluation process
  • Develops project communications and change management plans to ensure collaboration and a constructive environment for all parties involved during implementation of new assets, systems, processes, tools, and infrastructure
  • Leads the development and provides guidance and training on standardized project management processes to cross functional stakeholders. Ensures the team facilitates project management meetings proactively to drive action and efficiencies on a routine basis. Develops and refines project tools by soliciting input from customers on needs and improvements
  • Provides oversight to project process metrics to ensure delivery of the desired benefit and conducts periodic project debrief assessments with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement. Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation, adhering to all corporate policies
  • Leads efforts in cost and complexity reduction, facilitates process mapping and Kaizen activities, and identifies improvement opportunities via ad hoc analysis and insights

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain, Engineering, IT, or related field. MBA highly desirable
  • 10+ years experience leading large-scale cross-functional projects in operations, engineering, supply chain, IT or equivalent
  • Strong analytical skills with prior hands-on experience are preferred
  • CPG experience, with preference for Food & Beverage industry experience



Certificates and Licenses



  • PMP Certification (Project Management Professional) preferred
  • Lean/Continuous improvement certification preferred



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Exceptional influencing capability with the ability to manage cross-functional resources and work with different personalities and styles
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills - both formal and informal with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent problem solving and project management skills
  • Advanced technology application skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and ERP (SAP preferred)
  • Strong curiosity and drive for improvement and attention to detail

Working Conditions

  • Occasionally required to drive automotive vehicle
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
  • Extended hours
  • Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Occasionally may be required to lift and carry cases of wine
  • May need to determine color, taste, and smell of wine using eyes, tongue, and nose

California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $126,530.16 to $197,914.56. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
