| Purpose of Position |
a. The Director of the Center for Simulation Education (
CSE) collaborates with the other College of Health and Human Services (
CHHS) members in performing duties essential to the achievement of the goals for the
CSE. The Director functions as a planner, developer, consultant, coordinator, resource person and instructor to all users of the
CSE. The position requires technical expertise and program understanding to create and teach quality simulation experiences. The position is key in developing and facilitating clinical simulation, collaborating with University faculty and the community to develop innovative, educational courses using simulation and multimedia equipment.
b. The Director will also serve as the liaison to internal and external contacts to assure positive representation of the
CSE,
CHHS, and the University.
c. The Director will be responsible for hiring, mentoring, and evaluating simulation education faculty and simulation technicians.
d. The Director will develop a business model for simulation and professional development for optimal usage and alternate sources of revenue. |
| Primary Responsibilities |
a. Maintains a variety of records related to simulation operations and equipment.
b. Oversees and maintains the
CSE budget
c. Orders, maintains and provides security for simulation supplies, materials, and equipment in the
CSE; stores, discards, and rotates supplies and materials according to procedures.
d. Maintains
CSE schedule, attendance records, and tracks laboratory usage of simulation.
e. Assists in the research of purchasing options for lab equipment and software.
f. Actively participates in developing/revising the
CSE strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership.
g. Works closely with the Dean of
CHHS to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.
h. Collaborate with department chairs and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators.
i. Identifies best practices for simulation lab (equipment, technology, personnel, environment, space)
j. Collaborates with the course faculty to assist with implementation and evaluation of best practices in simulation.
k. Hires, mentors and evaluates
CSE faculty, personnel, and simulation technicians.
l. Collaborates with the Dean about strategic planning for simulation center and professional development outreach.
m. Maintains fiscal responsibility of capital equipment (high-fidelity patient simulators and task trainers) along with maintenance and upgrade.
n. Explores and obtains external grant opportunities and private donor support for sustainability of the center. Administer grants according to specified guidelines.
o. Uses evidence-based simulation models to design, implement, and evaluate educational programs for faculty/staff development in the use of clinical simulation, debriefing and assessment p. Provides leadership in the design and integration of simulation into curricula to ensure that expected competencies are being taught to meet all accreditation, approval and professional standards.
q. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of training in simulation technology for staff and faculty.
r. Collects data on learning outcomes for simulation exercises and collaborates with faculty/staff educators on disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications.
s. Serves as the primary point of contact with simulation company representatives and vendors. t. Develops an annual professional development, training schedule based on a health professional community needs assessment and faculty/staff expertise.
u. Prepares the center's annual report and maintains data relative to center operations. |
| Qualifications |
a. Minimum Master's Degree (Doctorate preferred) in a health care discipline and certification in simulation education and/or operations is required.
b. Progressive experience in leadership, management, and education with supervision and/or coordination of diverse and multiple groups of individuals involved in simulation.
c. Three to five years experience in simulation-based education and training, as well as implementation of innovative simulation-based education and training programs.
d.
CHSE or
CHSOS certification required
e. Excellent communication (written and oral) and efficient organizational skills
f. Current unrestricted license for practice as appropriate.
g. Three to five years' experience in a clinical setting.
h. Experience in curriculum development and assessment for adult learners.
i. Grant writing experience preferred.
j. Theoretical knowledge and clinical experience with simulations and computer-assisted learning. |
