Job Description
The Opportunity The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in areas that may include occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, risk management, ergonomics, Safety Management Systems (SMS), with special emphasis on the aviation industry. The courses will contribute to the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Aviation and Aerospace Safety as well as the Minor in Occupational Safety and Health. The position includes a mix of teaching and service obligations. The candidate must possess effective teaching skills at the undergraduate level, including the ability to relate theory to application through experiential learning. Basic teaching load for non-tenure track appointments is 12 undergraduate credit hours (four courses) per semester. The candidate is expected to develop new course materials as well as teach previously developed courses. Service duties may include student mentorship, curriculum evaluation and assessment, committee participation, participation in recruiting events, and project leadership. Required Education and Qualifications: The preferred candidate will hold a PhD (preferred) or M.S. (required) in Safety or a closely related discipline and demonstrate strong knowledge of both aviation safety and occupational safety. Prior professional experience in managing SMS safety programs or industrial hygiene is highly desirable, with experience in the aviation or aerospace sector considered preferred. Demonstrated or potential excellence in teaching, service, and mentoring undergraduate students is expected. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or designation as an OSHA Authorized Trainer are preferred.
