We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of manufacturing, laboratory, and building systems equipment for our Colors and Additives facilities.

The ideal candidate will possess a Mechanical Engineering BS degree, have experience with manufacturing or industrial equipment, and demonstrate strong skills in safety, CAD, Excel, and communication. Additional skills in electronics, instrumentation, and automation a plus.

This role reports directly to the Avient Color & Additives Director of Engineering and will have responsibilities at several east costs US facilities.

Responsibilities include:
Design, build, test, implement industrial production and lab process equipment, facilities and utilities equipment, controls and instrumentation, motor control, and automation systems.

Conduct safety reviews and improvements with a focus on ergonomic improvements and innovation.

Core duties include project management in addition to engineering.

Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve existing equipment and processes, product quality, safety, capacity and efficiency.

Manage capital projects from conceptual design through implementation in manufacturing.

Develop and manage capital budgets, oversee project execution, vendor relations, specifications, equipment design, integrated systems design and management of change.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Sr. Process Engineer

  • Develops, designs, and communicates manufacturing processes.
  • Monitors and revises processes to help generate cost savings and improve the quality and efficiency of product/process.
  • Participates in design reviews to improve the ability to manufacture products.
  • Responsible for the activities related to the development of new processes including researching current and emerging technologies, evaluating process cost, quality, and performing process characterization and optimization studies using designed experiments, problem-solving and decision making tools.
  • Identifies and solves issues or problems with equipment/process. Troubleshoots possible causes and coordinates the activities of maintenance, production and other available resources to implement cost effective solutions.
  • Provides coordination of new process installation and process changes.
  • Other projects/duties as assigned.

Physical/Environ. Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities may require close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office noise levels to loud.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • A background in manufacturing a plus but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong skills in electronics and instrumentation a plus.
  • CAD, Excel, Word, SharePoint. SAP knowledge a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to travel to other manufacturing facilities on the east coast of the US.
  • At least 3 years of related experience required.
