The Salvation Army Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glen will be a Christian sanctuary of rest, discovery, and growth for the neediest children in Oregon and Southern Idaho.

SCOPE OF POSITION: Guide cabin groups of 8-10 campers through successful participation in all aspects of the summer camp program.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Prior leadership experience preferred.
  • Have a valid Driver's License.
  • At least 2 seasons of summer camp experience or 1 year in equivalent youth work experience required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hold a valid or be capable of obtaining Oregon Food Handlers card.
  • Hold a valid or be capable of obtaining AED, Red Cross or equivalent CPR and First Aid certification.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • Be a Christian with a strong, demonstrative commitment to following Jesus Christ, and biblical principles, who is enthusiastic, energetic, and creative in spiritual leadership.
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Detail-oriented, Self-starter, Team Player.
  • Ability to diffuse stressful situations with staff and campers.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be comfortable working with a high degree of independence.
  • Possess leadership skills, with the ability to supervise, care for, and provide necessary guidance for campers 24 hours a day.
  • Possess the skills, to participate in all planned programs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate well in the English language.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards at all times.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways to, and with staff and campers.
  • Provide supervision, support, and motivate all campers.
  • Lead a weekly devotion to campers assigned to your care.
  • Coordinate with the Nurse and Head Cabin Leader for possible medical transportation as needed.
  • Turn in all camper-related forms promptly, such as, but not limited to, seeker forms, incident forms, safety reports, Notice of Concerns, and Observation Logs.
  • Set a good example for campers and others including language, cleanliness, punctuality, sportsmanship, and table manners.
  • Responsible for routine daily cleanliness of cabins and personal spaces.
  • Participate and/or assist in all summer camp programs as requested e.g., chapel, staff meetings, campfire, camp-wide games, free-time, electives, rise and shine duty, etc.
  • Last-day clean-up you will be responsible for the cleanliness of all living spaces under your assigned care.
  • Enforce respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.
  • Enforce adherence to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Ensure and provide supervision and physical/emotional safety for campers.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Leadership.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike, and twist continuously for a long period.
  • Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects.
  • Physical ability to respond to a variety of situations. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.


WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • There may be phone and in-person contact with others from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.
  • Working in a distinctively Christian environment.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
  • Work around dust, odor, high noise levels, and bodily fluids.


MISCELLANEOUS:

The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.

The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record. The candidate will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check and the TSA Motor Vehicle training.
