The Buyer role is responsible for the flow of information between vendors and the company. Will generate requisitions and place orders at the most favorable cost consistent with quality and availability. Will participate in inventory control and production planning. Will perform some general accounting functions as directed.

Hiring Manager

Purchasing Manager (Salem, VA facility)

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for entry of approved purchase requests into ERP purchasing module.
  • Responsible for vendor master record entry and maintenance in system.
  • Perform item master validation and pricing verification on purchase requests.
  • Communicate purchase orders to suppliers in approved formats.
  • Responsible for timely management of online purchasing with approved suppliers.
  • Work under the direction of the Purchasing Manager to resolve supplier delivery problems and facilitate open lines of communication between suppliers and internal parties.
  • Maintain and provide sales-tax exemption certificates as needed, in conjunction with the Controller.
  • Resolve quantity and invoice discrepancies with suppliers under the direction of the Purchasing Manager and the Accounts Payable Office.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence.
  • Perform other duties as may be required from time to time.
Qualifications
  • Education / Experience
    • Prior experience in purchasing and ERP systems preferred.
    • Minimum of Associate Degree and/or equivalent
    • Proficient in computer software products, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Skills / Knowledge
    • Excellent oral communication, problem solving skills and a creative thinker.
    • Ability to prioritize daily demands to meet operational requirements.
    • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to interact and communicate throughout all operational levels to understand purchasing requirements and operational needs.
  • Ability to understand and analyze information and develop recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in written form internally and externally with suppliers.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles.
  • Must have patience, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
  • Must exhibit unwavering integrity.
Work Environment
  • Work will be primarily performed in an office setting, but some time will be spent in a light industrial facility.
