Welding Manager

Purpose:


  • Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for a Welding Manager who will be a key support to the Welding Department in Norfolk, VA and shipyards throughout the Hampton Roads areas.


Job Description:


  • Organize, coordinate, and supervise employees and activities within the fabrication shop and out on the deck plates to ensure an effective and efficient operation that meets safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Develop tasking and staffing requirements for assigned areas. Studies production schedules and estimates of worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders and assign duties.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules using knowledge of equipment performance, quality of product, and capabilities.
  • Execute safety requirements, ensures environment compliance on assigned tasks, and provides customer satisfaction.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop department or work crew.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assists welders in solving work problems.
  • Train employees in procedures and assignments.
  • Responsible for the areas of assembly operation, machinery operation, processing or treating operations, or packing.
  • Demonstrate a strong technical writing ability as well as capability to verbally communicate effectively.
  • Ability to supervise employees.
  • Requires extensive and frequent use of applicable practices, procedures, and policies.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence and reports. Ability and willingness to perform in critical deadline situations.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work in a high demand/volume work environment with changing priorities.
  • Ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Conduct welding surveillances both in the fabrication shop and onboard ships.


Qualifications:


  • Must have a High School diploma or trade school equivalent and at least 10 years of experience in the welding industry.
  • Must pass weld qualifications 2G, 3G, & 4G.
  • Must meet NAVSEA 248 requirements by passing MIL-STD 1689 T9074-AR-GIB-010-278 Weld Workmanship requirements.
  • Must have experience managing industrial or shipboard personnel.
  • Must have knowledge of Quality Assurance, Safety, and NAVSEA Standards for shipboard work.
  • Must have knowledge of Naval ship repair processes and procedures.
  • Must have knowledge of OSHA regulations for shipyard employment, NAVSEA standard items, Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFFM), and NAVSEA Technical manuals.
  • Must be able to read and understand drawing and blueprints.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office forms and databases.


Desired Qualifications:


  • 10 years' experience in welding management preferred
  • Direct shipyard experience is preferred..


Security Requirements:


  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
  • Must have the ability to gain access to private and public shipyards and Naval installations.


Travel Requirements:


  • Occasional travel- up to 10%

  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to physically access ships, small crafts, and submarines
  • Must be able to spend hours, stooping, kneeling, crawling, walking, and standing
  • Will require work outdoors, in inclement weather, or in confined areas
  • Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.

Pay Range: $80,000 - $85,000 per year
