Georgia-Pacific is seeking a diverse group of talented, self-motivated, and experienced Maintenance Technicians to join our team at the Gypsum facility in Sweetwater, TX. We are hiring across multiple maintenance disciplines, including Mechanical Maintenance Technicians, Multi-Craft Maintenance Technicians, and Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians.

We're looking for highly skilled professionals with strong troubleshooting abilities and a solid commitment to safe work practices to maintain and repair manufacturing equipment. These roles are essential to our success by supporting increased equipment uptime and reliability through both preventive and corrective maintenance, enabling the facility to consistently meet its production and quality goals.

Compensation and Schedule

Compensation will vary depending on the role and placement. All positions will be located in Sweetwater, TX, relocation benefits may be available.

Schedules vary by location and placement:

Sweetwater East:

  • Sunday to Wednesday, 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, with every other Wednesday off
  • Wednesday to Sunday, 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, with every other Wednesday off

Sweetwater West:

  • Monday to Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, with on-call duty on alternating weeks

Final placement will depend on your experience, skills, and technical expertise. We want candidates who understand manufacturing equipment and processes and enjoy solving complex problems. Mechanical Maintenance Technicians (millwrights):

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in mechanical systems, with proven troubleshooting abilities and technical expertise to maintain and optimize complex manufacturing equipment. Possesses a solid understanding of precision alignment techniques to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity. We're looking for someone who understands how mechanical equipment works and enjoys solving problems.

Multi-Craft Maintenance Technicians:

The ideal candidate will have a foundation in both mechanical and electrical systems, with proven troubleshooting abilities and technical expertise to maintain and optimize complex manufacturing equipment.

Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Technicians:

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, and industrial automation. Individuals will demonstrate expertise in troubleshooting and repairing electrical components and control systems within a dynamic manufacturing environment. With proven technical skills, candidates will be capable of maintaining and optimizing complex equipment to ensure operational efficiency. Familiarity with PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, and instrumentation devices is essential, along with a commitment to precision, reliability, and electrical safe work practices in plant operations.


What You Will Do

Depending on your specific role and level, you may take part in a range of responsibilities that align with your skills and experience, including but not limited to the following:

  • Follow all plant safety and environmental policies, procedures and guidelines, while actively engaging in and supporting the facility's safety programs
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain industrial equipment
  • Identify root causes and implement long-term solutions
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
  • Conduct routine inspections and perform preventative maintenance to enhance equipment reliability and minimize downtime
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, including labor hours and key findings from preventative maintenance inspections
  • Strategically utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Utilize strong diagnostic skills to minimize downtime and improve reliability
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean work environment
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams across operations and other departments to support facility goals and initiatives
  • Clear communication, both verbally and in writing
  • Continuous learning of new technologies and processes
  • Actively contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency
  • Work in a hot, humid, cold, dusty, and noisy industrial environment.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Two (2) or more years of maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, production, military or agricultural environment OR a combination of relevant experience and a maintenance technical degree
  • Experience reading and understanding mechanical drawings

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Two (2) year degree or higher in Electrical/Electronic or Industrial Technology
  • Five (5) or more years of maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, production, military or agricultural environment
  • Experience in precision alignment, equipment installation, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing industrial electrical circuits up to 480 volts
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, conveyors, etc.
  • Experience working with power distribution and/or pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with systems integration i.e.: PLC, HMI, Instrumentation, Networking, Communication setup and commissioning. (Allen Bradley or CTI PLC experience is a plus) (PLC programing is not a requirement)
