Job Summary The Manufacturing Planner analyzes engineering drawings, models, specifications, and related documentation to determine the most practical manufacturing operations and production sequences. This role develops comprehensive work instructions and supporting documentation across multiple plan groups, including machine parts, composites, airframe structures, aircraft systems, and wiring. The planner applies detailed knowledge of fabrication, tooling, inspection, and manufacturing processes to ensure efficient and accurate production planning. This position also serves as a liaison between Engineering, Planning, Tooling, and Production teams, ensuring alignment between manufacturing instructions and engineering requirements while supporting discrepancy resolution. Job Responsibilities
- Review engineering drawings, models, specifications, and procedures to determine manufacturing operations and sequences
- Develop comprehensive work instructions for areas such as machine parts, composite details and assemblies, airframe structures, aircraft systems, wiring, plumbing, aircraft check-outs, maintenance, MRB, and coatings
- Apply knowledge of tooling, fabrication methods, manufacturing processes, and inspection requirements
- Collaborate with designers, production engineers, and cross-functional teams to interpret and clarify engineering and tooling requirements
- Ensure conformance between shop fabrication sequences and planning instructions
- Investigate discrepancies and support corrective actions as required
- Support continuous improvements to planning processes, documentation, and production workflows
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing planning experience or equivalent experience developing manufacturing or engineering documentation
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and technical references
- Demonstrated ability to develop clear and comprehensive work instructions
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Detailed knowledge of fabrication, tooling, manufacturing, and inspection processes for aircraft parts, assemblies, systems, or complex vehicles
- Proficiency with SAP, MS Office, CAPP/SFM, and model-based engineering systems such as Solumina/iBASEt, Teamcenter, or 3DX
- Understanding of EBOM, MBOM, and OBOM structures preferred (user review recommended)
- Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and procurement teams
- Familiarity with CAD/CAE tools (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA) preferred (user review recommended)
- Familiarity with PLM systems such as Teamcenter, Windchill, or SAP PLM preferred (user review recommended)
- Secret clearance preferred; ability to obtain required
Education
- Degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience (user review recommended)
Work Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing planning, engineering support, or documentation development
