Job Summary: The Construction Manager will lead and oversee the planning, budgeting, and execution of heavy civil projects, including highways, sitework, water/wastewater utilities, and large-scale infrastructure. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while promoting safety and operational efficiency. Additionally, the Construction Manager supports business development initiatives and drives market growth within the region. Key Responsibilities:
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, and site conditions; attend pre-construction meetings to determine project execution and completion.
- Lead full project lifecycle: planning, scheduling, budgeting, execution, and closeout.
- Determine labor, equipment and material requirements to complete project and use information to prepare bid/estimate proposal.
- Oversee contract administration, change order management, and quality control.
- Provide leadership and guidance to project managers to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
- Monitor cost control and margins; forecast and analyze financial performance.
- Oversee job costing and ensure projects meet owner expectations and contractual requirements.
- Monitor monthly financial reports and provide guidance on performance improvements.
- Collaborate with senior management and field leadership to establish project objectives, schedules, and performance standards.
- Supervise and/or support field crews, foremen, and superintendents as needed.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and resolve problems related to materials, equipment, and production. Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and safety standards.
- Lead business development efforts and execute strategies to grow market share in construction.
- Promote company workforce safety program and ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate Profile: A seasoned civil construction leader with deep technical and financial acumen, strong leadership presence, an execution-driven mindset, and a proven ability to scale teams and deliver on multi-disciplinary heavy civil projects from inception to completion with the following qualifications:
- 10+ years of estimating and project management experience in heavy civil construction.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management or civil engineering (preferred).
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of HCSS and scheduling software preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and supervisory skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and foster a team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to travel within the Northern California region for short periods.
