Overview

LMI is seeking an experienced Agentic AI / MCP Developer to support the U.S. Army Training Information System (ATIS) program. ATIS is a major Army initiative to modernize and consolidate Army training systems into a single, cloud-native, enterprise-level capability. As part of an Agile Release Train (ART) operating under the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), you will design, build, and operationalize agentic AI solutions using the Strands framework and Model Context Protocol (MCP) to enable intelligent automation, decision support, and workflow orchestration across the ATIS ecosystem.

This role is highly technical and hands-on, focused on building production-grade AI agents and MCP servers focused on native AWS services, AWS integration, and secure integration with DoW systems, APIs, and data services to improve operational efficiency, system usability, and mission outcomes.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors-helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

Responsibilities

Lead design and development of agentic AI workflows, agents, and MCP servers using the framework (e.g. Strands, CrewAI, LangGraph) to support orchestration, generative multi-step reasoning, tool usage, and system interactions.
  • Implement and manage Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and clients to enable secure, standardized access to ATIS data sources, APIs, and AWS native services.
  • Understand and work with AWS Bedrock for Knowledge Bases, Agents, Agent Groups, Guardrails, etc.
  • Utilization of AWS Bedrock Knowledge base for tuned RAG for various document styles and content.
  • Build AI agents that integrate with ATIS applications (e.g., ATIS Portal, ATMC, ATIS Learning, RFMSS, TS-MATS) to orchestrate workflows, interact with MCPs and APIs, interact with LLMs, interact with structure data, and support decision-making.
  • Design and maintain secure API integrations between AI agents and AWS GovCloud services, databases, and microservices.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, System Architects, UX, and Cybersecurity to translate mission needs into scalable AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Implement guardrails, validation layers, and audit logging to ensure AI behavior is predictable, secure, and compliant with DoD requirements.
  • Integrate agentic workflows into CI/CD pipelines using GitLab and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform).
  • Support DevSecOps, IATT, and ATO activities by producing technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and security artifacts related to AI components.
  • Optimize performance, reliability, and cost of AI services in AWS GovCloud environments.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to platform-wide AI and automation strategy.
  • Provide surge support across multiple ATIS systems as priorities shift.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Active Secret security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2+ years working with AI/ML, automation, or intelligent systems.
  • Hands-on experience building agentic AI systems, autonomous workflows, or complex orchestration pipelines.
  • Demonstrated experience with Python and modern AI frameworks (e.g., OpenAI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar).
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with structured/unstructured data sources.
  • Experience working in cloud environments (AWS preferred), including secure networking, IAM, and service integration.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience supporting secure or regulated environments (DoD, federal, or enterprise security controls).
  • Active DoDI 8140-compliant certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, CISM) or ability to obtain.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with the Strands framework and/or Model Context Protocol (MCP).
  • Experience building AI agents that interact with enterprise systems, knowledge bases, and operational data.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and microservices architectures.
  • Familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, RMF, or DoD ATO processes.
  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or AI/ML Specialty).
  • Experience working in a SAFe Agile Release Train (ART) environment.
  • Background supporting military, defense, or intelligence community systems.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel required (e.g., quarterly for PI Planning, program increment events, user engagement sessions, and key program milestones).
