Responsibilities:

As a Lead EW Coder, you will coordination of coding abstracting, statistics and data retrieval functions with accountability of Accounts Receivable targets, reporting deadlines and compliance with JCAHO indicators.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Coding and abstracting of both Inpatient and Outpatient material.
  • Responsible for equitable distribution of work and for insuring that charts are processed in a timely way.
  • Schedules staff in accordance with workflow and work load and trouble shoots problem areas.
  • Performs ongoing quality monitoring of individuals in the unit and provides monthly feedback in the form of statistics to manager and unit members.
  • Responsible for keeping unit members updated on regulatory changes.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Coordinates educational inservices and serves as a first line resource for coding questions.
  • Acts as liaison between coding staff and Business Office, Admitting Office and physicians.
  • Provides input for performance evaluations and hiring.
  • Prepares all quality information for review at the ED MD Quality Committee meeting which meets monthly.
  • Prepares return correspondence to patients and other providers for the ED Medical Director following the Quality meeting.
  • Performs all duties of executive secretary to the ED Medical Director

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Must have any one of the following coding certifications at time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCA, CCS-P, CPC-A, CPC-H-A, CPC-H or CPC.
  • One to three years experience as a coder
