Job Summary

The Patient Support Services Supervisor 1 in the Radiology Department at UC Davis Health oversees daily operations, managing a team of reading room and film library assistants to ensure seamless 24/7 imaging services. This role includes staff supervision, scheduling, training, and performance evaluation, along with technical management of digital imaging systems (PACS, EMR) and exceptional customer service to address complaints and resolve conflicts.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience within healthcare or medical office setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook), EMR platforms, and other business/data management systems, with strong skills in data entry, analysis, reporting, and producing professional correspondence and statistical materials.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, exercising sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality while managing multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
  • Skilled at independently identifying issues, developing solutions, and following through to ensure effective resolution.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex clinical, technical, and operational information clearly, collaborate effectively, negotiate, resolve conflicts, and motivate staff.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with patients, staff, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Experienced in personnel management, including recruiting, hiring, coaching, mentoring, performance evaluation, accountability, recognition, and team development.
  • Provides direct supervision, ensures efficient use of resources, and supports high-quality patient care. Highly organized and analytical, with proven ability to manage complex projects, maintain accurate files, meet deadlines, and complete tasks independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in leadership roles within healthcare or medical office setting.
  • Leadership and Supervisory Skills: Personnel management skills, including recruiting, interviewing, training, and developing staff. Ability to establish performance standards, coach employees, administer corrective actions, and foster team building.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

  • Customer Service and Professionalism: Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service using tact, diplomacy, and professionalism. Ability to maintain composure and efficiency during peak workloads or when handling distressed or difficult individuals.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Independent problem-solving skills to define issues, identify resources, and implement solutions. Ability to exercise delegated authority and seek assistance when needed.

  • Physical and Technical Abilities: Physical ability to travel within the hospital, operate departmental vehicles, and lift equipment up to 50 pounds. Proficiency in filing systems (alphabetical, chronological, color-coded, numerical) and maintaining high standards in documentation.
  • Writing and Editing Skills: Skills to produce professional correspondence, reports, and summaries with accuracy in grammar and spelling.
  • Mathematical Competence: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and statistical calculations.

The UC Davis Department of Radiology performs imaging and therapeutic procedures for patients throughout Northern California. Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Must be able to work variable hours, alternate shifts, and occasional overtime to provide coverage as needed for sick leave and staffing shortages.
