RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate asphalt rollers to achieve proper density, smoothness, and finish of paved surfaces.
- Monitor compaction and make real-time adjustments to ensure uniform coverage and avoid over-compaction or surface damage.
- Read and interpret project plans, grades, and specifications to achieve desired compaction results.
- Work closely with the paving crew, trucks, paver operator, and foreman to coordinate efficient paving and compaction operations.
- Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Help move, position, and set up paving equipment and machinery as directed.
- Perform basic maintenance and inspection of paving equipment.
- Assist other workers as needed or directed and other duties as assigned by management.
- Previous experience operating asphalt rollers or compactors and knowledge of paving techniques preferred.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions such as cold, heat, and humidity.
- Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and overtime as needed.
- Must posses a positive, costumer service oriented attitude.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standing/Walking: Frequent - required to stand and walk on uneven, hot surfaces for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Sitting: Infrequent - primarily works while standing or walking; may occasionally ride in or assist with equipment.
- Lifting: Occasional - must lift up to 50 pounds from ground to waist level (e.g., tools, cones, shoveling asphalt, etc.).
- Carrying: Occasional - carry up to 35 pounds for up to 50 feet (e.g., lutes, tools, or barrels).
- Pushing/Pulling: Occasional - generate forces of 75+ pounds using asphalt rakes and shovels when working the asphalt.
- Climbing: Occasional - must climb on/off paving equipment, trailers, and in/out of uneven terrain.
- Bending/Crouching/Kneeling: Occasional - frequent postural changes required while raking, shoveling, or compacting asphalt.
- Reaching/Handling/Gripping: Frequent - grip strength of 75 lbs+ required for tools such as lutes, shovels, and hand tampers.
- Balancing: Frequent - must maintain balance on hot, moving, or sloped surfaces and in proximity to traffic and equipment.
- Environmental Conditions: High heat exposure, dust, fumes, noise, and proximity to live traffic and hot materials.
