Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Can Stamping, Battery

Support high volume can stamping manufacturing by taking can stamping programs from product design to factory operation. Drive collaboration between Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Production to ensure team goals are aligned with company priorities. Identify the opportunities, challenges, and dependencies of each project, while translating scattered information into concise and complete messages and communicating to every team member. Coordinate the cross-functional team to ensure successful launches of new manufacturing lines in all Tesla locations. Collaborate with global teams to develop novel and complex automation equipment. Create, maintain, and communicate schedules and plans for can stamping manufacturing projects including process development, process validation, line design, equipment fabrication, factory acceptance testing, shipping, site acceptance testing, and start of production. Prepare roll-up information for senior leadership. Coordinate build milestones with Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities team, and Production team. Track equipment readiness and report effectively on status, blockers, and changes. Track project costs and drive cost management improvement. Develop and maintain effective communication channels for all stakeholders. Provide technical leadership and project management skills to identify creative and timely solutions to key program challenges. Identify team priorities and motivate the project team to complete critical tasks. Drive action with internal and cross-functional teams to complete projects within time and resource constraints.

• Drive development of new/innovate manufacturing processes in Can Stamping and the equipment modules to make can forming possible from proof of concept to full scale production
• Drive ramp of new manufacturing lines by characterizing baseline performance and capability of each system, drive actions to maintain or improve performance as measured by product quality and tool availability
• Be an expert in technical manufacturing engineering discussions and define process development roadmap for Can Stamping processes including Cup Forming, Drawing & Wall Ironing, Washing & Drying and Conveyance
• Drive root cause analysis through process and equipment expertise, derive and execute DOE's accordingly, correlate with upstream/downstream processes
• Ensuremanufacturing lines meet uptime, availability and reliability metrics - OEE, cycle time, yield, quality and first time throughput, and investigate bottlenecks to identify root cause and countermeasure to maximize throughput
• Work independently and with vendors to understand root cause of failures, propose design or component changes, and implement and validate equipment modifications
• Develop and deliver training to operationsand maintenance technicians to ensure seamless handover of new equipment
• Generate and maintain documentation including machine and process specifications, drawings, BOM, spare parts, PFMEA, control plan, process flow chart

• Degree in Science or equivalent relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
• 6 or more years of experience in a production environment and/or proven manufacturing development track record
• Experience with cold stamping dies (progressive, transfer) or beverage can ironing process
• Experience with 3D CAD (CATIA, Solidworks) needed, FEM tools a plus (AutoForm, Dyna)
• Proven ability to operate under pressure while managing multiple priorities simultaneously
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
