Anticipated Hiring Range: $20.50 - $25.25 hourly
Full Pay Range: $20.50 - $30.00 hourly

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

If you have experience providing excellent customer service and engaging programming, then the Paraprofessional position may be for you. As a Library Paraprofessional for our Ed Robson Library, you will perform library work, basic reader's advisory, reference services, and present programs. In this role, you'll link the community to library resources while breathing life into your own story.

We Require

  • Two years of library experience

  • Associate's degree in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or related field

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • Experience with library-related automation systems or databases; eReaders and other digital devices

  • Experience creating and implementing programs for youth, teens, and adults

  • Paraprofessional library skills acquired through a specialized educational training program

Job Contributions

  • Assistswith preparing,implementing,and presenting public programs

  • Assistswith providing direct service to customers through basic reference and reader's advisory services

  • Assistswith conducting school visits, group tours,and community outreach

  • Assistspatrons in the use of computer services, including the online catalog, the Internet, and various databases

  • Creates reading logs, brochures, signage, posters, bulletin boards, letters, bookmarks, bibliographies, games, promotionaldisplays,and pamphlets

  • Performs routine opening/closing procedures

  • Responds to customer concerns.

  • Assistswithcollection development, includingweeding, shifting,shelf-reading,etc.

  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers using the Library's District Great Expectations customer service model.

Working Conditions

  • Position works in a library environment and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • Scheduling is varied, continually dependent on branch needs, and often requires evening and weekend availability

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds floor-to-waist; lift up to 5 pounds waist-to-shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder-to-overhead, carry up to 10 pounds a distance of up to 50 feet, and push/pull up to 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet

  • Ability to lift bins, push carts, stoop to shelve books, kneel to shelve books, walk to assist customers with finding materials, walk to and from the staff area to the public area, and move craft and program supplies from various storage areas to the site of the program in the library and off-site
