Position Details:

As part of the Finance team, you will report to the Director, Sponsored Projects Operations. As the Sponsored Projects Accounting Manager, you will play a critical role in the management of grants, ensuring accurate reporting, and maintaining compliance across the organization's sponsored projects portfolio. In addition, you will also be responsible for managing CMI's federal and non-federal research and direct services grants. This is an exempt, full-time position requiring a minimum of four (4) days per week in the office, on a schedule determined by your supervisor. This position is located in our NYC headquarters office.

You Will:

  • Maintain accurate grant financial data in internal systems (Sage Intacct, Expensify) and relevant federal/non-federal portals. Assist with grant spending projections, prepare grant financial reports and ensure accurate grant activation and closeout.
  • Manage monthly grant reconciliations to the general ledger and prepare monthly journal entries, ensure accurate posting of expenses, and monitor for unallowable costs. Prepare and process correcting journal entries, including payroll allocation adjustments.
  • Support cash flow tracking, aging reports, and reconciliation of revenue recognition vs. receipts.
  • Manage grant account setup, monthly reconciliation, sponsor invoicing, subaward payments
  • Provide audit support, and monitor adherence to federal, state, local, and private funder requirements.
  • Prepare and submit grant invoices; track payments and follow up on outstanding receivables.
  • Assist with Uniform Guidance Single Audit, financial audits, and funder desk audits.* Provide proactive financial guidance and respond to internal inquiries related to revenue release, account activity, and financial policy questions.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Public Administration, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in grant accounting, fund accounting, sponsored programs administration, or nonprofit financial management.
  • Experience with federal, state, city, and foundation-funded projects.
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and federal cost principles.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting systems and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Expensify, Salesforce, Adaptive, or similar financial

The salary range for the position is posted. Factors such as candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations affect the salary offered within this range. In addition, this salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
