We are seeking a Benefits Representative to process health and welfare enrollments, pension plan and 403(b) enrollments, determine eligibility for the tuition grant plan, and approve requests for the tuition reimbursement plan. The Benefits Representative communicates and administers the university's benefit plans, programs, and policies through direct interaction with faculty, staff, postdoctoral students, residents, interns, and retirees, as well as internal departments and external vendors.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day benefits related research and information to faculty, staff and retirees requiring a knowledge of the university's benefit plans, programs and policies, i.e. questions regarding how our health and welfare plans work, employee and dependent eligibility, and completion of enrollments.
  • Reviews and approves enrollment by faculty and staff in the Health & Welfare Plans online assuring the required documentation is received for elections made.
  • Responds to client inquiries and complaints to ensure timely and courteous resolution of problems related to benefits enrollment and processing.
  • Acts as a liaison with university employees and external benefits contacts. Researches and provides guidance in the resolution of eligibility, claims and enrollment issues.
  • Reviews and triages all assigned reports.
  • Representatives are required to use internal and external databases necessary for cross-reference of inquiries to determine resolutions.
  • Maintains standards of customer service as outlined for the team.
  • Proficient in the use of various software applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
  • Applies a working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations affecting benefits.
  • Attends designated training programs, seminars and meetings.
  • Serves on workgroups and committees, as requested.
  • Performs special duties and projects.
  • Handles confidential information appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent
  • Two years benefits related experience required
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $18.20 - $33.90 HRLY (Commensurate w/exp.)
