Job Overview

The Multi-Store Investigator proactively identifies theft patterns and supports stores within a designated market, serving as a liaison between Senior Organized Retail Crime and Store Asset Protection Managers. The investigator develops strategies to mitigate losses and reduce organized retail criminal activity targeting Macy's.

What You Will Do



  • Conduct investigations into recurring thefts, booster activity, and lower/mid-tier ORC groups within an assigned division.
  • Manage a caseload across multiple stores and coordinate store-level follow-ups.
  • Partner with AP teams and field leadership to identify and address emerging theft trends and patterns.
  • Support stores with evidence collection, detailed report writing, and incident response for prosecution.
  • Provide store-level training on crime linking and investigative techniques, while gathering intelligence and building rapport with subjects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local and division-wide law enforcement agencies.
  • Share intelligence and collaborate with the Senior ORC Investigator to identify potential links to broader criminal networks.
  • Utilize field surveillance tactics to develop and validate ORC investigations involving persons and establishments of interest.
  • Collect, analyze, and monitor intelligence through state and local ORC associations, as well as online tools and resources.
  • Support Supply Chain investigations related to cargo theft and organized theft rings impacting facilities.
  • Prepare and present major investigation findings to senior leadership.
  • Provide testimony in criminal, civil, or administrative proceedings on behalf of the company.
  • Direct and follow up on court-ordered restitution and pursue other financial recoveries, including gift cards and seizures.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and prosecuting attorneys in directing investigations and presenting cases for prosecution.
  • Network with retail counterparts to expand investigative reach and assess broader loss impact.
  • Provide analytical and statistical ORC theft data to the Senior ORC Investigator and Directors to inform senior leadership and support legislative reform.
  • Educate and communicate criminal trends causing loss to stores.
  • Conduct store-level training on ORC trends, indicators, and prevention strategies.
  • Maintain a communication network to facilitate the flow of investigative information, including e-commerce fencing of stolen goods.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Skills You Will Need

Investigative Expertise: Skilled in leading, managing, and coordinating investigations into Organized Retail Crime (ORC), including field surveillance, intelligence gathering, and case management across multiple locations.

Relationship Building: Ability to develop and maintain strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies, retail partners, and other stakeholders to facilitate cooperation, information sharing, and investigative success.

Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Proficient in collecting, analyzing, and monitoring intelligence to identify criminal trends and patterns, support decision-making, and provide data for legislative or organizational initiatives.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present findings, provide testimony, train teams, and share insights with diverse stakeholders, including senior leadership, law enforcement, and retail teams.

Adaptability and Problem Solving: Resourceful and flexible in responding to changing priorities and complex investigations, capable of working independently and collaboratively.

Training and Educational Ability: Experienced in developing and delivering training on ORC trends, indicators, prevention strategies, and investigative techniques to store-level associates and internal teams.

Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple investigations and projects simultaneously, maintaining thorough documentation, tracking action items, and ensuring timely follow-up.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a High School diploma or equivalent are encouraged to apply. 1-3 years of investigative experience.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves remaining in a stationary position for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Able to sustain extended periods of CCTV and/or PC screens to facilitate surveillance or analysis.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.
  • Able to travel within division/market of responsibility with periodic need to travel overnight based on the needs of the business. Position requires regular physical presence in Macy's store locations, with an opportunity for remote work, when needed.
