The Center for Simulation & Immersive Learning at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing will foster the development of an internationally recognized immersive learning and digital innovation ecosystem, leveraging technology to enhance the overall mission of the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.

We are seeking aSimulation Operations Specialist IIwho will be part of the simulation team responsible for simulation equipment the management and operations of daily simulation functions. The incumbent reports to the Simulation Operations Manager and works collaboratively with all members of the team and stakeholders across the university and the health system.

This role engages with activities related to center management and operations, and learning support. To be successful in this position the incumbent will heavily rely on ability to understand and manage technology, be a proactive problem-solver, be detailed oriented, be customer-centered, process and outcomes-oriented, and demonstrate ability to communicate effectively and learn quickly.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Specialist II

  • Supports and can function as a Simulation Operations Specialist I.
  • Ensures appropriate use, maintenance, and repair of simulation equipment, including hardware and software.
  • Communicates both technical and non-technical instructions and needs effectively to a diverse population of stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the simulation operation management of specific courses.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting; communicates with vendors, staff, and users to ensure resolution of issues.
  • Recommends or develops changes to improve quality of program; collaboratives with staff to implement quality improvement initiatives.
  • May need advanced knowledge or willingness to learn teaching modalities (e.g. virtual reality, standardized patients).
  • Collaborates with the Simulation Operations Manager to conduct routine vendor scans and facilitate the procurement of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with training faculty in the use of simulation equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment as needed for simulation.
  • Provides support to faculty and students on simulation equipment.
  • Ensures knowledge of all simulation equipment, including advanced knowledge and the ability to trouble-shoot and repair equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and up-grades of simulation equipment.
  • Maintains current knowledge of simulation equipment and operations manuals.

Special Projects

  • Assists staff and faculty in the programing, development, testing, and troubleshooting of cases/scenarios.
  • Serves as simulator operator running and troubleshooting scenarios with staff and faculty.
  • Leads training opportunities for staff, faculty and other users; conducts training with general oversight; utilizes appropriate tools to develop training schedules, sessions, classes, workshops, and other activities.
  • Participates in and co-leads preparation and execution of complex simulation activities, including research projects, in situs, and conferences with staff, faculty, and learners.
  • Conducts research and literature review for new simulation program trends and topics; shares new opportunities, trends, and changes in best practice with staff and users.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Two years of basic allied health, simulation, or relevant experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • EMT, CNA, or other similar allied-health related certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field.
  • Experience supporting faculty in an academic environment.
  • Experience in an academic health system.
  • CHSOS Certification or within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience with medical simulation training.
  • CPR certification

Starting Salary Range: $22.75 - $40.50 HRLY ($61,620 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
