Your Opportunity + Impact
The Senior Mechanical Technical Specialist collaborates closely with multidisciplinary design teams to support all phases of complex building and infrastructure projects within an Architecture and Engineering environment. Serving as a subject-matter expert in mechanical systems, this role is responsible for ensuring technical excellence, code compliance, and constructability of designs. The Senior Mechanical Technical Specialist provides leadership in the development of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems, supports project teams in defining scope and fees for complex projects, and contributes to the successful delivery of high-quality, sustainable, and innovative engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads independent mechanical planning and design efforts, reviews the work of junior engineers and designers, prepares construction documents, and ensures successful project delivery.
- Provides technical leadership on complex projects, applying advanced expertise in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems design throughout all phases of project development.
- Collaborates closely with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other disciplines to deliver fully coordinated and integrated design solutions.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of applicable building codes, industry standards, energy codes, and regulations, ensuring designs meet local, state, and federal requirements.
- Conducts QA/QC reviews of mechanical designs, calculations, and construction documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and constructability.
- Supports project planning efforts by developing schedules, technical proposals, scope narratives, and labor-hour estimates for mechanical engineering services.
- Works with project teams to define, clarify, and communicate mechanical scope of work, identifying risks and technical challenges early in the design process.
- Promotes and implements quality assurance and quality control best practices to improve design outcomes and minimize errors or omissions.
- Performs and verifies mechanical design calculations, prepares technical specifications, and develops reliable cost estimates for mechanical systems.
Education and Experience
- Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in a Technical discipline preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of twenty (20) years' job-related experience.
- Licensure/Certification: n/a
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrates a strong desire to expand knowledge and take on new responsibilities within the field.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, and/or other discipline-specific programs preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet project deadlines effectively.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.
