What to Expect

The Regulatory Scientist will focus on TSCA and GHS-SDS compliance across Tesla's Manufacturing and R&D sites. The incumbent's main duties will consist of working with internal and external toxicologists, legal, engineering and EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) to manage TSCA compliance. The incumbent will submit process and chemical data through EPA's CDX system. TSCA requirements will be implemented by working with site industrial hygienists, engineers, and production personnel to apply engineering, administrative or PPE controls. Occasional field or site visits to inspect, catalog or collect relevant industrial hygiene or environmental data is required.

In addition to TSCA the incumbent will also manage SDS creation and updates for Tesla's manufactured materials or products. This will require accessing internal Bill of Material or supplier databases, an understanding of relevant GHS codes and their underlying safety or toxicity data and an awareness of national as well as international regulations as it relates to SDS.


What You'll Do
  • SDS generation for Tesla's products and materials across manufacturing and R&D sites
  • Anticipate changes to Tesla's products and materials requiring an SDS, collect and manage relevant information from internal, supplier or third party software databases (IMDS)
  • Manage TSCA CDR reporting under section 4, and substantial risk reporting under section 8
  • Manage Tesla's overall compliance with TSCA section 5, to include submittal of PMNs and SNUNs for Tesla chemicals
  • Review and provide regulatory and occupational health guidance on existing or proposed materials for Tesla's manufacturing operations to include PPE or engineering requirements
  • Collect relevant field data (air/water/waste sampling) with assistance from local environmental or industrial hygiene team
  • Evaluate Tesla materials with relevance to international regulatory compliance (REACH, K-REACH, AICIS etc.)

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Toxicology, or equivalent experience
  • Upper-level or expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience navigating, reviewing and submitting information in EPA or public chemical databases (ECHA, Pubchem, Gestis etc.)
  • Experience reviewing engineering or process designs and providing feedback as it relates to risk-mitigation or regulatory compliance
  • Experience with managing company chemical and material databases
  • 2+ years' working in an EHS or material regulatory function, TSCA experience preferred
  • PE, CIH or CSP preferred

    Expected Compensation
    $80,000 - $150,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
