Job Description

The Simulator Development & Integration team is leading the way in developing advanced simulation training tools used in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) to train Sailors. This business area continues to expand as the demand for high fidelity, reliable, and cost-effective training solutions grows. Currently, there is an opportunity for a motivated project engineer as part of the Next Generation Training Program (NGTP), and its suite of simulators, which will be developed and delivered over the next two decades. The team needs versatile engineers who are ready to work in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment in both individual and team roles. The successful candidate will be responsible for various phases of complex technical projects, from initial planning and scoping to installation and delivery.



Specific duties and responsibilities for this role include:




  • Effectively interface with project stakeholders internal and external to the Program
  • Support project work planning activities, such as definition of trainer scope and associated functional requirements, cost estimating, budget and schedule development, and risk identification
  • Responsible for timely execution of assigned budget and schedule
  • Support solicitation, placement, and subsequent follow and oversight of sub-tier supplier contracts
  • Monitor project progress and performance against plans and initiate corrective actions as necessary
  • Identify technical problems and support needs to minimize project delays
  • Ensure project results meet requirements associated with scope, schedule, cost, and technical quality



The position requires close interaction and coordination with other engineers, project managers, and management across multiple sites and organizations to ensure successful completion of project objectives, including close collaboration with stakeholders across NNL, BPMI, Naval Reactors, and sub-tier suppliers. Periodic travel to NNPP and sub-tier supplier sites is required to effectively manage project execution.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science or construction field; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science or construction field.

Preferred Skills

  • An understanding of manufacturing processes, quality assurance, developing and tracking performance metrics, and an ability to analyze data trends to extrapolate future performance
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments for all aspects of work with minimal direction from management
  • Previous program or project management type-related experience
  • Previous experience with Primavera P6
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and team building skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products

Pay Range
$56,900.00 - $87,100.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
