This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As Technical Lead of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be a key leader on the Thermal / Fluids Core Components group within our Lunar Permanence team. This position reports to the Director of Thermal / Fluids Core Components within the Lunar Permanence organization. You will be responsible for setting the standard for long duration and human rated spaceflight hardware across a product group that encompasses heat exchangers, radiators, cryocoolers, valves, pumps, and propellant management devices. Alongside the Director of Thermal / Fluids, you will be accountable for delivering our products within our committed schedule, budget, and performance for our customers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as second-in-command of the Thermal / Fluids engineering group, supporting strategic planning and execution
  • Provide technical Thermal / Fluids product expertise and leadership to the engineering team as both a doer and a mentor to others
  • Represent Core Thermal / Fluids team as a key customer interface
  • Coordinate cross-functional integration of Thermal / Fluids systems with other subsystems
  • Develop project schedules, resource allocations, and technical roadmaps
  • Monitor progress against milestones and implement corrective actions when needed
  • Manage technical risks and develop mitigation strategies
  • Present technical updates to senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Optimize resource utilization across multiple concurrent projects
  • Develop long-range technology roadmaps for advanced cooling and fluid systems
  • Drive continuous improvement of analysis tools and testing methodologies

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent technical field.
  • 15+ years of related experience in the design, development, and flight of aerospace products, preferably thermal / fluids components with an emphasis on cryogenic applications.
  • 6+ years in aerospace engineering
  • Have worked at least one aerospace system project from requirements definition through verification.
  • Proven problem solving skills and has mastered trade study methods.
  • Leadership or management experience as well as a history of mentoring.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a US Government Top Secret Clearance

Desired:

  • Experience across the product life cycle (pre-conceptual design through operational support).
  • Experience with cryogenic fluid applications - particularly turbomachinery, valves, and heat exchangers.
  • Experience with cryocoolers.
  • Experience with space-rated radiators.
  • Space flight systems certification process experience.
  • Knowledge of collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
  • Familiarity with formal risk and opportunity management processes.

Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $169,624.00 - $237,473.25 CO applicants is $160,618.00 - $224,864.85 WA applicants is $169,624.00 - $237,473.25

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
