Unit Description: Inpatient Rehabilitation nursing is a different type of nursing. We are primarily coaching and educating our patients as we care for their medical needs. We strive to help our patient's transition back home by helping to guide, coach and direct them to become independent in their activities of daily living. We work very closely with PTs and OTs and MD's and we help our patients carry out their treatments. If you like to develop relationships with your patients and their families, and you have patience and good people skills, inpatient rehabilitation may be the right kind of nursing for you. We are a 35-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit located at the Fanny Allen Campus where Fletcher Allen's Rehabilitation Center is based. We provide team-based care, working closely with PTs, OTs, SLPs, Recreational Therapists, MD's and Medical Psychologists. We have a wide range of patients, including brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, and multi-traumas or illness that requires a more intensive Rehabilitation for patients. Our average length of stay is 13 days, but our range is 5 to 90 days. Around 95% of our patients return home with a small present needing to go to a SAR (Suba acute Rehabilitation) or to a long-term care facility.
