This is an entry level position with growth potential. An Environmental Technician is field focused; therefore, will spend a majority of time on construction sites. This position works very closely with the construction projects, maintaining a strong collaboration with the project team's frontline field supervision including the superintendents, foremen, and laborers. This position will also be working with third party material supply vendors. The Technician works with superiors to ensure that Ames complies with all applicable environmental laws and regulations, including air, water, waste, and soil quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain project specific Dust Control Plans and/or Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans including site map development and updates.
  • Manage water and dust palliative quantities and application.
  • Manage dewatering operations.
  • Collect water quality samples and transport to laboratory under chain of custody protocols.
  • Author inspection reports via Microsoft programs or third-party applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate and/or a minimum of 1-year equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience operating 4-Wheel Drive vehicles.

Preferred Skills:

  • Must have or be able to obtain AZ Department of Transportation's "Erosion Control Coordinator" certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Must have or be able to obtain Maricopa County's "Rule 310 Comprehensive Dust Control Coordinator" certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Experience working independently, following verbal or written instructions.
  • Previous experience in and/or a good understanding and technical background related to heavy and highway construction, mass earthworks, and underground piping and mining associated with civil projects is a plus.
  • Candidate must be capable of conducting field monitoring and preparing reports.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) ideal but not necessary.

Work Conditions:

  • Works under close, then eventually infrequent supervision.
  • Will work on uneven ground on construction sites with hazards and safety protocols to follow (i.e. personal protective equipment).
  • Field-based. Sites consist of highway, bridge, railroads, precious metal and coal mines, material processing facilities (i.e., sand & gravel pits), industrial facilities, and water resource projects. Routine office work is required for periods of time to complete reporting, attend meetings, etc.
  • Will work in variable weather conditions, sometimes at remote construction sites.
