Description & Requirements

The Broad Institute is an amazing place - we apply our deep knowledge of human genetics to empower a revolution in biomedicine and accelerate the pace at which the world conquers disease. Through our partnerships with MIT, Harvard, and the Harvard teaching hospitals, we've become a worldwide hub of cutting-edge biomedical science.

About the Lab:

The Xavier Lab combines cutting-edge technologies with molecular biology, genomics, and systems biology. Our research focuses on translating human genetics to functional biology; generating systems-wide maps within the gut that capture immune features and metabolic states at single-cell resolution; determining the influences of the gut microbiome on health and disease using human cohorts and computational models; and, identifying and placing new cellular receptors within pathway biology and leverage chemical biology to test therapeutic hypotheses and inform drug discovery program.

About the Position:

The Xavier lab is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers with PhD degrees in molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, or computational biology. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external groups to solve challenging biological problems. The work will be multi-disciplinary, combining molecular biology and microscopy, and will work closely with immunologists, computational biologists, chemists, and engineers. A successful candidate is expected to excel at critical thinking and be a keen learner of new computational tools and analytical approaches. The postdoctoral trainee should be self-motivated and willing to take advantage of the multidisciplinary network of scientists around them and engage with collaborators and fellow group members.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists, including biologists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians.
  • Contribute to the development of new experimental methods and computational tools for biological research.
  • Publish findings in top-tier journals and present research at national and international conferences.
  • Apply novel methods in the context of tissue biology
  • Use demonstrated scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought to expand technical capabilities and identify new research opportunities
  • Regular interaction with internal and external contacts, including Broad scientists, collaborators, students, postdocs, and external clinicians and industry leaders.
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in cell biology, bioengineering, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field
  • Strong publication record and excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Demonstrated success in working on complex, novel research problems.
The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule.
