Job Summary

The Billing Analyst works closely with Cancer Center management and staff, providers and personnel from departments throughout UCDH. This person plays a critical role in the performance of compliance, fiscal and administrative services, including billing compliance, medical record abstraction, invoicing, and financial reports. The role of the Billing Analyst is to provide routine analysis and validation of clinical services and procedure charges and external billing. This position is responsible for comprehensive medical record review and analysis to determine the appropriateness of clinical visit and procedure evaluation charges for billing and reimbursement purposes and for inclusion on the Medicare Cost Report. Job duties will include working within the different Cancer Center charge work queues and entering reimbursement charges from invoices received from outside vendors. This position reports directly to the Cancer Center Clinic Ambulatory Care Administration Supervisor. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience and training.
  • Two (2) years of experience coding and/or obtaining authorizations for Oncology related services.
  • Prior experience in the review and abstraction of clinical data from hospital medical records.
  • Prior experience/education with ICD-10 and charge coding practices.
  • Experience working with electronic medical records.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to identify problems and/or discrepancies and implement solutions.
  • Ability to accomplish a variety of concurrent assignments in an effective and efficient manner, demonstrating ability to organize, prioritize and complete assignments in a designated timeframe.
  • Ability to adjust to changing workload or assignments and pressures of increased workloads or deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of healthcare procedures sufficient to perform medical chart reviews.
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities and meet required deadlines according to federal regulations and/or department protocols.
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel in order to maintain department lists, create forms and create/maintain Excel spreadsheets.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to recognize and analyze discrepancies and make appropriate corrections.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary for communicating effectively and professionally with transplant providers, patients, clinical team and outside agencies.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent laws, regulations, and guidelines governing medical records; confidentiality, privacy, and provision to others, including HIPAA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coding Certification (CPC or CPC-A)
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Health Sciences or related fields and/or equivalent experience and training.
  • Medical Billing, or similar prior experience.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and UCDH billing systems preferred.

Department Overview

UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center provides care to patients with a variety of needs. Patient conditions include oncology and non-oncology diagnoses including malignant and benign hematology, solid tumors, endocrine disorders, rheumatology, gastrointestinal, genetic, autoimmune renal, neurologic, pulmonary diseases, as well as a myriad of other rare disorders and diseases. Some of these patients will proceed to a stem cell transplant and/or cellular therapy treatment such as CAR-T.
