1. Summary LPL Financial is executing a firm wide modernization of its Microsoft 365 (M365) ecosystem, moving to a multi tenant M365 architecture aligned to Doing-Business-As (DBA) based domains to resolve performance constraints, improve advisor experience, enable modern collaboration (Teams, Copilot), and meet regulatory isolation requirements. This role provides hands on architectural leadership to validate, design, document, and guide implementation of a multi tenant M365 model and the associated Exchange Online, Identity, and Collaboration workloads. The architect will partner with LPL's Platform Architecture team, DevSecOps, Identity & Access Management, and Microsoft to assure technical feasibility, identify risks, and ensure alignment ahead of key Investment Committee milestones. 2. Objectives of the Engagement The architect will play a critical role in: Architectural Validation & Future-State Design * Confirm that the current M365 and identity stack can evolve to support a tens-of-thousands tenant model. * Validate recommended DBA aligned multi tenant recommendation and its implications on email routing, identity, domains, and collaboration workloads. * Assess near term decision gates vs. long term evolution paths. Risk, Constraints, and Feasibility Analysis * Identify architectural risks related to isolation, mailbox scale, identity consistency, interoperability, and migration throughput. * Provide guidance on compliance, auditability, and administrative boundaries across tenants. * Evaluate implications for Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and future Copilot enablement. 3. Key Responsibilities Architecture & Strategy * Produce authoritative architectural documentation covering: o Multi tenant Exchange Online design patterns o Tenant reference architecture & Desired State Configuration o Domain and DNS provisioning model at scale o Identity alignment strategy (authentication vs. email address separation, primary login identity, multi domain mapping) o Cross tenant collaboration and isolation controls * Lead technical deep dives with Microsoft and other partners, ensuring alignment on recommended architecture. Program Support & IC Readiness * Provide architectural input into executive-facing materials, including: o Feasibility assessments o Risk/mitigation summaries o Trade-off analysis for key decisions (e.g., DBA-only strategy, identity redesign) * Participate in working sessions with program leadership and provide clear architectural rationale. Technical Oversight & Governance * Review vendor technical deliverables for quality and alignment. * Ensure architectural consistency across Product, Technology, IAM, Security, Compliance, and Operations. * Support definition of non-functional requirements: o Security isolation o Compliance enforcement o Reliability & scale o Observability & monitoring o Maintainability & operational model Migration & Implementation Guidance * Evaluate mailbox migration patterns, throughput assumptions, and automation requirements. * Guide teams on: o Cross tenant identity and mailbox cutover sequencing o Handling users supporting multiple practices o Advisor office isolation requirements o DNS automation and tenant provisioning at scale * Provide architectural decision records (ADRs), design validations, and redlines. 4. Required Skills & Experience Core Technical Expertise * Deep architecture experience with: o Exchange Online, hybrid topologies, large scale migrations o Azure AD/Entra ID identity patterns o Cross tenant and multi tenant M365 architectures o DNS, domains, federation, and email routing in complex environments o Microsoft 365 Lighthouse and tenant management automation o PowerShell / Graph API automation at enterprise scale Migration Experience * Prior delivery of large scale migrations (25k-100k users) in regulated environments. * Experience with migration tools: Quest ODM, BitTitan, Microsoft Migration Tooling. Security & Compliance * Familiarity with: o Regulatory isolation requirements o Multi tenant supervisory controls o DLP, sensitivity labels, Exchange transport rules o Audit and monitoring models across tenants Leadership & Communication executives. * Strong cross functional leadership across IAM, Security, Operations, and Program PMO. * Experience producing clear, decision ready architectural materials. 5. Deliverables Architectural Deliverables * Future-state Multi-Tenant Email Architecture Blueprint * Identity Alignment Assessment (login identity vs. email, multiple addresses per advisor) * Domain & DNS Strategy for tens-of-thousands tenant scale * Migration Architecture & Runbook (high level) * Non-Functional Architecture Requirements (security, scalability, observability, maintainability) Program Deliverables * Risk analysis for major architectural decisions * Technical input for program-status and update checkpoints * Updated technical assumptions and validation of Microsoft recommendations Quality & Governance * ADRs, redlines, and technical guardrails for vendors * Oversight of architectural artifacts from partners *Skills* Architecture, entraID, MS365, azure, exchange o365, active directory *Top Skills Details* Architecture,entraID,MS365,azure,exchange o365,active directory *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract position based out of Fort Mill, SC. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $90.00/hr.
